The Truth Behind This ‘Real Housewives’ Star’s Alleged Alcohol Problem, Including the 1 Shocking Thing She Did at the Bar

Although Real Housewives of New York star Sonja Morgan proclaimed she was on the wagon, recent sightings prove otherwise.

A number of times Morgan said she was done with drinking. In 2016, Morgan’s castmates told People how much calmer and healthier Morgan seemed after she laid off the booze. However, cracks began to show, especially after this recent shocking display at a bar (page 5).

1. She made this disturbing comment in 2017

While filming a girls’ trip for RHONY, Morgan seemed to have trouble staying off the booze. “The downside of the show is when we do a trip and the ladies drink too much. Those situations can be pressure cookers. When I see those liquor bottles come out I start to do a mental countdown,” she told Page Six.

Although she lamented about how she quit drinking, she went full throttle during a girls’ getaway in Mexico. Morgan said she was sober for 10 months before the trip, according to People, but got extremely drunk and tried to make out with her castmates.

Morgan knew she was going to get called out for her display during last season’s reunion and told People, “I do want to quit again. I like partying, but I like to not be drinking, too.”

When season 10 opened, Morgan told just about every castmate about how she spent the summer taking an antidepressant and juicing. Although Morgan claimed she pushed the reset button on her health, castmate Tinsley Mortimer said this about her in her blog: “I don’t believe that Sonja achieved a great deal of balance or humility from her ‘retreat’ after spending the summer in a self-professed Xanax-induced haze in the South of France.”

After recently appearing on Watch What Happens Live, Morgan was “spotted wasted and humping people at downtown bar,” according to Page Six. “She was making out with blondes [of both genders] and then left with one,” an unidentified source told Page Six.

When confronted with the news that she was wasted and overly amorous, Morgan told Page Six: This always happens to me! I was dancing with a bunch of girlfriends and my friends. Humping? What does that mean? Dancing? Grinding? Humping? That’s all in the eye of the beholder. I was drinking, yes. It’s all so exaggerated. I was having fun.”

Morgan claimed she met with a therapist and had tests done to determine if she had a drinking problem. She said her doctor said she was fine.

“Bethenny [Frankel] confronted me about my drinking binges, whatever season that was . . . I reflected, went to a therapist, talked to my doctors, tested all my bloods,” she told Page Six TV. “I wanted to see, ‘Do I have a problem?’ And it came out, ‘No, you don’t have a problem. But, you know, you’re going through a lot, you need to talk to somebody.’”

8. This is what experts say about alcoholism

The National Institute of Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism report that consequences of drinking too much include reduced inhibitions, slurred speech, confusion, memory problems, and more. Consequences are car accidents, risky behavior, violent behavior, suicide, or homicide. Does Morgan match any of these descriptors?
