The Vast Differences Between Donald Trump and Barack Obama’s Marriage Reveals More Than You Think

Can you predict how long a marriage will last based on how two people treat each other in public? If so, it’s completely reasonable to question the state of Melania and Donald Trump’s marriage — and not to question the strength of Michelle and Barack Obama’s.

The current and former first ladies actually have a few surprising things in common. But their relationships with their husbands are so different that it’s hard to believe they’ve had the same title. From levels of PDA to what we know about their sex lives (page 5) and how they raised their kids (page 6), here’s everything that sets these two couples far apart.

Photographers have captured more than one instance in which Donald Trump boards or exits Air Force One walking ahead of his wife. The Obamas were usually seen walking together — proof they enjoy each other’s company, even when going from place to place.

Apparently, both Melania and Donald Trump can barely stand holding hands. The Obamas, on the other hand, aren’t strangers to a sensible amount of PDA. Photographers have caught plenty of hand-holding, plus enough hugs and kisses to prove they plan on staying together forever.

Every presidential couple has a different kind of love story. Donald and Melania Trump first met at an exclusive party in New York City, during which he asked for her number and she refused to give it to him. Barack and Michelle Obama met at the law firm they both worked at in Chicago.

Next: They have completely different views on what a happy marriage should look like.

The two celebrity couples have vastly different views on how to maintain a successful marriage. The Trumps claim they never fight, and Melania maintains a more “traditional” role.

Michelle Obama has admitted she and her husband have been through rough times, but claim that’s a normal part of being married.

Among the many moments Melania Trump may or may not regret is her talk with Howard Stern about her sex life.

We don’t know a lot about the Obamas’ lives behind closed doors — at least, not from anything they’ve discussed in public themselves. Perhaps, for them, keeping the most intimate moments private is a sign they’re too meaningful to share.

Next: Their parenting styles definitely don’t align.

Michelle Obama said when reflecting on raising her daughters, “We have to raise our children to be the adults that we want them to be, and that starts young.”

Melania Trump’s take on motherhood involves never letting her son out of her sight, which shows her dedication to protecting him but might suggest she’ll have a hard time letting him go.

The awkward dance

Body language reveals a lot about a relationship. The Trumps didn’t seem to enjoy their Inaugural Ball dance too much. In contrast, the Obamas’ first dance as president and first lady is one of the most adorable moments of the two caught on camera.
