This Is How Meghan Markle Reacted After Her Half Siblings Called Her ‘Phony’
Even before she got engaged to Prince Harry, Meghan Markle was receiving criticism from her family. Not her mom or dad, whom she appears to be close to. But from half-siblings and cousins — especially her outspoken half-sister, Samantha Grant.
Check out the latest rant from Markle’s half-siblings — and see page 7 for how she reacted to it.
First up: Why everyone’s so angry
The squawking from Grant and company happened because they didn’t receive an invitation to the royal wedding. When the Suits actress and her prince announced they were inviting members of the public to be part of the festivities, her family members went off.
Next: Immortalized on Twitter …
Markle’s half-sister Samantha Grant had already posted quite a few snarky chirps to Twitter about not seeing an invitation for the royal wedding in the mail. But when news broke that civilians were getting invites, she went on a full-blown rant tearing Markle apart for inviting “complete strangers.”

Then, Markle’s brother gets in on the action
Following Grant’s meltdown, Markle’s half-brother Thomas Markle Jr. gave an explosive interview to the Daily Mirror. In it, he calls the actress a “phony” and says she cut ties with the family when she moved to Toronto to film Suits. He even went so far as to say that his half-sister is trying to reinvent herself to fool people into thinking she’s Princess Diana.
Next: But if you think this is out of the blue …
This behavior isn’t new
Both Grant and Thomas Jr. have been vocal about wanting to get invited to the wedding despite being estranged from their sister. Grant, for her part, has been incredibly negative, openly calling Markle a “social climber” who’s putting on an act.

Prince Harry’s comments
While Prince Harry has asked the tabloids to leave Markle alone in the past, he hasn’t issued any comment to her vocal half-siblings. He did, however, say after his and Markle’s first Christmas together that the royals “are the family she never had.” This didn’t sit well with Grant, who publicly shot back that Markle always had a supportive family but “she was just too busy.”

How Markle reacted before
For the most part, Meghan Markle has only commented on her parents and her relationship with them. She hasn’t made any statement about her half-sister’s comments — and since she had to give up social media to be part of the royal family, she wouldn’t have been able to spar with Grant on the matter anyway.

How she’s reacting now
Despite the drama that her family members have created, Meghan Markle continued to stay close-lipped prior to her wedding on May 19. At least, nothing has been said to the public. In fact, the entire royal family appears to not be giving any of the negative comments about Markle any attention.

The one big rule they follow
Markle revealed in a cover story for Vanity Fair what helps the couple at the end of the day — especially when criticism of their relationship runs amuck. The key: not getting caught up in the frenzy of it all, and taking time for themselves.
“We’re two people who are really happy and in love,” she tells the publication. “I’m sure there will be a time when we will have to come forward and present ourselves and have stories to tell, but I hope what people will understand is that this is our time.”

Squeezing in alone time is important
And we aren’t just talking about the prince whisking Markle away to Botswana for her 36th birthday in August 2017, either. We’re talking about the run-of-the-mill “normal people” dates they have when they’re together.
Reports of the duo visiting a couple low-key spots in Toronto and staying in to cook dinner together are a great reminder that every couple should have date nights. (No matter how long the couple has been together.)
Next: They both share a love for this that makes them happier.
The good they do together is wonderful
This couple also shares a love for giving back. In fact, Markle was honored in 2017 for her humanitarian work, something both she and her main squeeze are passionate about. And as we have learned from Harry’s brother and sister-in-law, Prince William and Kate Middleton, giving back together makes a couple happier.
