This Is How Melania Trump’s Engagement Ring Stacks Up Against Donald Trump’s Past Wives
Donald Trump isn’t known to be frugal with … well, anything. As someone who has been married three times, that meant some glamorous weddings and even more extravagant engagement rings.
Here are the details of each of Trump’s marriages, including how Melania Trump’s engagement ring stacks up against his past wives (page 8). Plus, you won’t believe how much he spent on her 10-year anniversary ring (page 9).
1. Trump and Ivana’s relatively private wedding
- Even with 600 guests, the wedding managed to stay under wraps.
Trump and Ivana Zelníčková tied the knot in 1977 after a not-so-romantic start to their engagement. According to Slate, Trump proposed on a ski vacation by threatening, “If you don’t marry me, you’ll ruin your life.”
600 guests reportedly attended their wedding at the Marble Collegiate Church in New York, though they managed to keep most details of their nuptials pretty private from the public.

2. Clues about Ivana’s ring
- This claim could mean he didn’t spend much on her ring.
Surprisingly, Trump hasn’t bragged about how much he spent on Ivana’s engagement ring. Could it be that her ring wasn’t actually all that expensive?
The couple signed a prenup that allowed Ivana to keep all her jewels, which Trump clearly wasn’t too worried about. According to Newsweek, Trump claimed, “I would never buy Ivana any decent jewels or pictures. Why give her negotiable assets?”
We do know, however, that the diamond ring she received from her fourth husband, Rossano Rubicondi, cost $1 million. Their wedding took place in 2008 at none other than Donald’s Florida golf estate, Mar-a-Lago.

3. His second marriage
- The wedding cost an estimated $1 million.
In December 1993, Marla Maples became Trump’s mistress-turned-wife in a lavish affair. They got married in the Trump-owned Plaza Hotel’s Grand Ballroom in New York City with upwards of 1,100 invited guests.
According to The Washington Post, “The tab for the evening, including about $60,000 worth of caviar, looked to be about $1 million.”

4. Maples’ glamorous attire
- Her tiara was worth a whopping $2 million.
Trump clearly went all-out for his second wedding, and Maples’ attire certainly fit the bill. She wore a glamorous Carolina Herrera gown, and according to the New York Daily News, completed the look with a borrowed $2 million tiara.

5. Her ring has had numerous owners
- It was most recently sold for $300,000.
Following her divorce from Trump in 1999, Maples sold her 7.45-carat emerald cut ring for $110,000. She then reportedly donated the money to charity, but Trump apparently found the whole ordeal to be “pretty tacky” and “ridiculous.”
However, the ring found a new owner in 2016 for a much higher price. According to Town & Country Magazine, the ring was sold for a whopping $300,000 at an auction.

6. Wedding No. 3
- Every detail was over-the-top.
If you thought Trump’s marriage to Maples was ornate, you haven’t seen anything yet. When he and Melania Knauss tied the knot in 2005 at Mar-a-Lago, every detail was over-the-top. From the 10,000 flowers overflowing in the ballroom to their Grand Marnier chiffon wedding cake that took two months to make, their day was far from modest.

7. An extravagant dress
- Her dress cost $100,000 and required 500 hours of labor.
Melania’s wedding dress was the definition of extravagant. Her Christian Dior gown donned a $100,000 price tag — but that’s nothing compared to the labor it took to create the dress.
According to Elite Daily, “The wedding gown’s crystal beadwork reportedly took 500 hours of work to complete, leaving the final product weighing 60 pounds.”

8. The actual price of Melania’s ring
- He claimed to have gotten a discount on her $1.5 million ring.
Trump’s been getting caught up in his lies for years — including the details of how much Melania’s ring actual cost him. In 2005, after the two got engaged, Trump bragged to The New York Times about a supposed discount he received on her $1.5 million, 15-carat diamond ring.
“It was not free, as reported, but half that price,” Trump reportedly claimed. “Only a fool would say, ‘No thank you, I want to pay a million dollars more for a diamond.’”
Graff Diamonds, who Trump purchased the ring from, made sure to debunk that claim. Chairman Laurence Graff told Forbes that Trump was “ a pleasure to do business with,” but he didn’t receive any discounts.
Next: Her anniversary ring was even more expensive.
9. Trump bought Melania a pricey anniversary ring
- Her anniversary ring was double the cost of her engagement ring.
Even though Trump claimed he would never spend more than $1 million on a ring, he went way above that price tag on a gift to Melania. For their 10-year wedding anniversary, Trump dropped $3 million on a new ring for his wife.
The 25-carat diamond ring can be seen on Melania’s hand in her official White House portrait, which didn’t sit well with many. According to W Magazine, “Many commented on the insensitivity of flaunting their decadence, especially when much of their lifestyle is currently being paid for by taxpayers.”
