In-N-Out was founded in California, and Wide Open Eats shares data that shows Californians can’t get enough of the Double-Double. This burger comes complete with two slices of cheese, two all-beef patties, sliced or grilled onions, lettuce, tomato, and special sauce.
As for nutrition, we’re hoping Californians aren’t eating this burger too often. One will set you back 670 calories and 41 grams of fat.

2. Virginia: Hamburger from Five Guys
- The Hamburger has 840 calories and 43 grams of fat.
Wide Open Eats shows Virginia’s a huge fan of Five Guys. And instead of anything too fancy, Virginians tend to love the classic all-American hamburger. An original burger from Five Guys is exactly what you expect — two hand-formed grilled beef patties, on a toasted bun. You also get all the toppings you want on it, too.
It doesn’t sound too bad for you, but it is. One Five Guys burger is 840 calories and 43 grams of fat.

3. Oregon: Western Bacon Cheeseburger from Carl’s Jr.
- The Western Bacon Cheeseburger has 750 calories and 35 grams of fat.
Data from Wide Open Eats shows Oregon likes to get a little more decadent than other states when it comes to their favorite burger. Carl’s Jr.’s Western Bacon Cheeseburger is what burger-lovers dream of with its charbroiled beef patty, two strips of bacon, and melted American cheese. What really takes it over the top is the addition of crispy onion rings and barbecue sauce.
This burger contains a whopping 750 calories and 35 grams of fat, though, so enjoy sparingly.

It may surprise you that data reported by Wide Open Eats found Alaska can’t get enough of Burger King. While McDonald’s didn’t house any state’s favorite burger, BK certainly did — especially when it comes to the infamous Whopper. This classic burger contains a quarter-pound beef patty, tomatoes, lettuce, mayo, ketchup, pickles, and white onions all on a sesame seed bun.
The Whopper’s not even the most offensive burger for your health, either, though it’s still 660 calories and 40 grams of fat.

- The Original Whataburger has 590 calories and 25 grams of fat.
This chain may not be as classic as McDonald’s, but Texas loves it, according to Wide Open Eats’ data. You can get some seriously huge burgers from Whataburger from the looks of their menu, too. But Texas is all about the original. This burger contains a perfectly seasoned beef patty, mustard, lettuce, tomato, pickles, and diced onions on a toasted bun.
As for calories, it will only set you back 590 calories and 25 grams of fat. Not bad.

Wide Open Eats shows this state’s residents adore Steak ‘N Shake’s Double ‘N Cheese Steakburger, which the fast food joint says is one of its most popular options. This Steakburger contains two patties, American cheese, and your choice of toppings on a toasted bun.
If you go for just the burger sans fries, it’s not too bad for you, either. One burger will set you back 440 calories and 25 grams of fat.

Wisconsin doesn’t just love cheese — they also love their Butterburger, according to data from Wide Open Eats. If you’ve never heard of Culver’s, they’re a fast food joint known for this special type of burger. And the original Butterburger is loved by many, as it’s made with locally grown beef and a signature lightly-buttered bun. You can add whatever toppings are to your liking, including real Wisconsin cheese.
One Butterburger is only 390 calories and 17 grams of fat, too, so eat away!

We’re hoping you have enough room in your diet for this gut-buster, though. This burger will set you back 990 calories and 58 grams of fat.

This fast food joint is known for “smashing” their burgers down and making them totally customizable. But feel free to stick with the classic patty, American cheese, and regular bun.
You might as well go for the double patty, too, since it’s only about 540 calories and 32 grams of fat with cheese.

If you’ve been dreaming of a burger festival, head to Mississippi. What’s Cooking America notes the Slugburger is a beloved Mississippi classic, which is characterized by its small, deep-fried beef patty. The burger is typically topped with mustard, pickles, and onions on a five-inch burger bun.
For being deep-fried, the Slugburger isn’t too bad for you, either. One will set you back about 350 calories due to its size.
