Tori Spelling’s Disastrous Life Makes Us Think the Kids Are Who Everyone Should Really Be Worried About

TV personality Tori Spelling grabbed headlines in early March when cops were called to her house following reports that she was having a meltdown. Sure, it’s troubling to hear — especially because the police have been in contact with Spelling quite a bit over the past month.

But the scariest part of the story? That the Beverly Hills: 90210 alum’s children were in the house at the time. Spelling and her husband, Dean McDermott, typically nab the spotlight, but how is this affecting their kids? Here’s why we think it’s Spelling’s kids who we should be the most worried about.

Tori Spelling and Dean McDermott have five children together, ranging from age 11 to just about a year old. So with the exception of Spelling’s 1-year-old son, Beau, her children are old enough to know that their home life isn’t stable. This is evident from reports about the recent 911 call, which say the kids were at home when Spelling had her meltdown and that “everyone was scared.”

Another aspect that is surely hurting Spelling’s children is their father isn’t always around — and when he is, there’s turmoil. McDermott was reportedly gone for days before Spelling’s most recent episode. When he is there, the two reportedly sleep in different rooms and argue constantly. This is clearly not a good environment for the kids to grow up in (especially because a lot of the their feuding reportedly has to do with raising the kids).

… And she’s not afraid to let everyone know it. While hanging out with fellow reality TV star Corinne Olympios the day before her meltdown, Spelling allegedly vented about the stress of having five kids. She even went so far as to say she wanted to hang out for longer “so that Dean would have to take care of the baby.” This behavior clearly isn’t shielded from her children, who could end up developing issues with neglect if they hear often enough that their mother wants time away from them.

There’s financial strain

Sure, Spelling and McDermott’s kids may not be old enough to understand the just how severe the family’s financial problems are. But they can, however, feel the stress from it. An NBC News report confirms that parents’ financial stress trickles down to the children. If the issue isn’t properly communicated to the kids and they only feel the stress, they can develop anxiety and depression from the situation.

This may be the most troubling part of the environment that Spelling’s children are growing up in. Not only is their living situation unstable, but it’s also not kept within the family because their parents are famous. Spelling and McDermott’s oldest children surely know by now that their parents are on TV and that their feuds are documented. And because the couple is also prone to public outbursts at each other, their kids likely know that their dirty laundry is on display.

Perhaps the most puzzling part of the Spelling-McDermott drama is that Spelling reportedly hasn’t ruled out the idea of having another child. Reports began to swirl in late 2017 that, despite all their marital troubles, the reality show star would consider having a sixth baby with McDermott. With the stress the five children are already under, there’s no telling what kind of crisis that another sibling would put the whole family through.

It’s hard to say whether there’s light at the end of the tunnel for Tori Spelling’s marriage to Dean McDermott. We only hope, for their children’s sake, they find a way to live without so much drama and threat of mental illness. It’s making for a toxic environment that an also puts their kids in danger.

McDermott wasn’t Spelling’s first husband. As you may recall, the star was married to Charlie Shahnaian when she met McDermott on a film set. She’d only been married a year before she pursued an affair with the actor — and Shahnaian found out about the incident in a tabloid first, Heavy reports.

McDermott ended his decade-long marriage for Spelling, as well. And though things seemingly worked out for Spelling in the end, she had a breakdown when she sat with her ex-husband on her reality show, True Tori. “I regret the way I handled things obviously. He’s a good man,” she tearfully said.

McDermott didn’t just have an affair with his first wife — he also cheated on Spelling once before. People reports Spelling was celebrating the holidays with their children while McDermott was having an affair. And she even created her reality show, True Tori, to document how her and her husband could work through the tough time together.

Even more shocking, E! News reports Spelling found out about the affair after 28-year-old Emily Goodman came forward with the truth. It turns out Goodman and McDermott had a two-day fling in Toronto when he was visiting.

And McDermott’s ex-wife reveals Spelling’s been paying his spousal support

On top of the rest of the couple’s money woes, Spelling was also reportedly paying McDermott’s alimony payments, Us Weekly reports. Mary Jo Eustace, McDermott’s ex-wife, said McDermott was supposed to help pay her teenage son’s rent. But when his rent checks were bouncing, it raised red flags for Eustace.

“Tori reached out to me and basically said that she would be covering the alimony because Dean didn’t have any money,” Eustace recalled. Unfortunately, Spelling fell back on those payments as well, which certainly led to some tension.

As one source told Us Weekly, “You would think the cheating, money problems and constant arguing would be enough for Tori to decide to divorce Dean, but she refuses to even discuss it.” It seems Spelling doesn’t want to be seen as a “failure” in the eyes of her peers, which is perhaps what she believes may happen if she leaves her husband.

As of now, Spelling’s mother is picking up the financial burdens the couple can’t keep up with. And the publication notes she’s also discussed the possibility of having a sixth child, even with her current issues. There’s no doubt friends and family are worried about her future.
