These Toys and Games Can Help You and Your Kids Stay Healthy and Get in Shape

For most people, the idea of exercise is exhausting in and of its self. About 80% of people give up on their diet and exercise resolutions after the first month. The trick is when it comes to exercise, is to find something fun to do while you’re exercising.

This is where we come in. We’ve found some of the easiest ways to make your exercise regimen all that more exciting and interesting. By using toys or video games, your exercise turns into something that is fun and exciting. Even better, a lot of them you can do with your kids, so you can get them off the couch too! Take a look at some new and classic games and toys to get your family’s blood moving.

1. Dance Dance Revolution

Dance Dance Revolution is really the game that started it all off in the modern world. At first, you had to head to an arcade to have that kind of fun. But then it became a toy you could bring home and play in your own living room. Dancing alone can burn up to 450 calories an hour for a 155-pound person.

2. Hula Hoops!

Yes, believe it or not, these classic toys are making a huge comeback. Not just among kids, but adults as well. It’s not just a casual fun thing to do anymore. Hoops come in all shapes, sizes, and weights. The Mayo Clinic says that hooping can be good exercise if you’re able to do it for longer than ten minutes. The best part about it is that the style of Hooping has vastly evolved into an almost ballet-style level of sophistication. Give it a try and show off your new skills to your friends and family.

3. LeapTV

Building on the success of the Wii and the Xbox Kinect, the company LeapFrog has jumped on the bandwagon. They have introduced their own version called LeapTV. Their system combines the features of the Wii and the Xbox but it is programmed to help educate children and increase their exercise. The system says it’s for people ages three to eight, but you know you’ll play it too.

4. Blaster Toys

While most people are familiar with NERF as the end-all-be-all of foam dart guns, there are a plethora of options to choose from. The best part about these toys is that it gets the whole family moving and shaking trying to dodge the foam projectiles. Just make sure you wear appropriate safety protection.

5. Zombie Run!

What is better than kicking back and watching any hit zombie movie or TV show? How about being apart of one? Zombie Run! is an app for your phone that gives you a series of missions to pull off while you are out for a jog. The app plays music, has a narrative, and makes you run faster when you are being chased by zombies! Zombies are the worlds best motivator for running.

6. NERF Bash Ball

This cool little-twisted version of a ball from NERF is actually pretty awesome. Playing catch with your kids is a great way to get closer, but you first have to teach them how to catch. The slotted holes and foam design are great for having the little one’s hands have something to grip. Plus it gets you both outside and off the couch.

Ever wanted to be apart of a sci-fi storyline set in the distant future? Carbon and Dust provides just that. “The program reads like a book with integrated action and tasks you must complete to advance further in the story,” according to the creators, Darebee.

They have been pioneering this RPG/Exercising style of gaming for some time and have a bunch of different stories that you can choose from; Plus a few casual workouts that you can do anywhere. Talk about being your own personal hero!
