1. Change your environment
Do you perform tasks in the same place at the same time every single day? You can’t expect to be creative if you stay stuck in the same environment all the time. If you work in an office all day, get outside. Let nature inspire you to produce something innovative. Get moving and experience someplace new. There is a whole world out there!
A University of Michigan study found that being in nature can help restore your brain’s cognitive functioning. Enjoying the outdoors can keep your brain from becoming overstimulated and help you think more clearly. Consequently, you’ll be able to accomplish tasks to the best of your ability.
2. Use your imagination
Remember when you used to dream big dreams as a child? You had imaginary friends and superhuman powers? Think like a kid again and let your imagination run wild. Don’t let the rules and restrictions of adulthood dictate how you conduct your life. There may be a world-changing idea hiding beneath those crazy dreams.
“As children we naturally draw upon our imagination and curiosity in an attempt to make sense of the complicated world around us. We experiment with everything in our midst, dropping things to see how far they fall, banging things to see how they sound, and touching all the things we can get our hands on to see how they feel,” said Seelig in the book.
3. Be positive
Negative thoughts can dampen creativity. Try your best to only nurture thoughts that are affirming. You will not only feel better about yourself but also create some of your best work. A study conducted by psychologist Adam Anderson revealed that a positive mood can help make you more creative. Remaining in a good mood can also help you absorb more information.
