Wedding Weight Loss: How Meghan Markle May Mimic Kate Middleton’s Infamous Diet Plan
Royal watchers became obsessed with everything Kate Middleton did ahead of the royal wedding in 2011. Right down to what diet she followed to get in shape for the big day. Now that Meghan Markle is set to get hitched to Prince Harry, it’s her turn to have the masses taking note of everything she eats. And, rumor has it, Meghan may choose to follow in Duchess Catherine’s wedding diet footsteps. But will she take the extreme measures that her predecessor did? Here’s how Meghan may mimic the duchess’s now infamous wedding diet.
First, an intro to the Dukan Diet
Kate Middleton reportedly started the Dukan diet ahead of her wedding. This meal plan, often referred to as “French Atkins,” is a high-protein plan consisting of four steps. The first step, called the Attack Phase, only allows you to eat pure lean protein for a set number of days. As the diet goes on, you are allowed to integrate vegetables. At the end, some fruit and cheese is allowed, along with a “cheat” meal to treat yourself. The idea is to maintain the fourth stages of this high-protein diet, while going back to the Attack Phase once a week.
How Kate took it to the max
Needless to say, Kate Middleton followed the diet to a T. In fact, she became so slender that people started to wonder if she was losing too much weight. The diet’s creator, Pierre Dukan, has since revealed that he thinks the duchess took his diet to the extreme and became too thin. “I think she lost too much,” Dukan told the Daily News. “At the beginning she had good cheeks. Now, she has no cheeks.”
Does she still follow it?
The Duchess of Cambridge appears to still exercise part of her now infamous wedding diet. Although, it’s more likely that she and her family just eat very healthy. She is rumored to love fruits and vegetables — even raw veggies — but enjoys indulging in a curry dish every now and then. Now that sounds like a diet anyone can follow. And speaking of other people’s diets…
Prince Harry’s main squeeze has been very open about her cooking and eating habits in the past — and they are much more lenient than the Dukan diet. Granted, Meghan told Delish that she ate cleaner when she was filming Suits, starting her days with hot water and lemon and eating simple salads for lunch. But outside of filming, Meghan is an avid cook and can’t say no to a glass of red wine. (More on that and other vices in just a bit.)
How she may mimic Kate
It isn’t entirely clear if Meghan is hopping on the “Royal Wedding Diet” bandwagon or not. But we can see how she may follow in Duchess Catherine’s footsteps. Since she is already accustom to adapting a diet lifestyle from when she was an actress, taking on the Dukan plan may be easy for her. And since she likes to cook, she will likely find many ways to make her strict protein options extra delicious.
What are the difficult things for her to give up?
All that being said, Meghan’s go-to diet plan is nowhere as extreme as the one Kate Middleton became allegedly “obsessed” with before her wedding. According to her interview with Delish, Meghan kept pasta on the menu while on her diet and incorporated fruits and cheese. Plus, the Dukan diet would require her to give up her two biggest vices — red wine, and French fries. (She reportedly eats fries every chance she gets while on vacation.)
In the end …
It really doesn’t matter how Meghan chooses to get ready for her big day. The self-proclaimed yogi is already in great shape, and will no doubt look stunning when she walks down the aisle next May. Any diet plan — whether it be extreme like Kate’s or not — will surely render positive results.
