You May Be Surprised By What Kate Middleton Really Thinks About Meghan Markle

Recently, the world rejoiced when Prince Harry announced his engagement to Meghan Markle, a gorgeous American actress. And while the royal family has publicly expressed their joy at the impending nuptials, there has been some speculation about what Kate Middleton really thinks about the situation … and it isn’t entirely positive.

Of course, no one really knows how Middleton feels except Middleton herself. But given the timing of the wedding and a few other factors, no one would blame the Duchess of Cambridge for having some reservations.

Publicly, Middleton has expressed her support for the couple, stating that she couldn’t be happier.

“William and I are absolutely thrilled,” she said. “It’s such exciting news. It’s a really happy time for any couple and we wish them all the best and hope they enjoy this happy moment.” In a joint statement, Prince William and Middleton said they are both “very excited” for the happy couple.

In October, it was announced that the new royal baby was due in April. Prince Harry and Markle have set a wedding date for May 19. Middleton may have some concerns about attending a wedding so soon after giving birth, and she also may feel a little miffed that the couple is stealing the spotlight — although a royal baby is always a big deal, this will be the couple’s third child, and the fanfare tends to die down with each pregnancy.

It isn’t difficult to imagine anyone being a little jealous of Markle, even a royal duchess. Markle is a divorced, biracial, American actress who’s just waltzed past a lot of barriers to marry Harry, and she’s used to being on camera, so she’ll know more about appearing poised and professional than Kate will. The world has always admired Kate Middleton, but it may admire Meghan Markle even more.

The wedding party

It is highly unlikely that we’ll see the Duchess of Cambridge in the wedding party. Not only are the two just now getting to know each other, but because Middleton is the future queen consort when William becomes king after his father, she’s unlikely to be an attending person to another royal bride, according to royals expert and author Marlene Koenig. Plus, Middleton wasn’t even her own sister’s Matron of Honor because she didn’t want to upstage her, so it wouldn’t make sense for her to be Markle’s.

Still, nothing would squash rumors of a feud more than Markle extending the offer, and it’s clear that the perceived hostility is something the royal family is concerned with.

Just before Christmas, Markle joined Prince Harry for the Queen’s annual pre-Christmas lunch with her family. The couple arrived with Prince William and Middleton, and it was well-documented by the press that the Duchess of Cambridge was seated right next to Markle. This could easily be a coincidence or a genuine effort for the two ladies to get to know each other better, but since the royal family is very calculated about the way they present themselves to the press, it could have been an effort to squash rumors of a feud.

Sometimes a person’s body language reveals more about their feelings than words ever could. And according to body language expert Susan Constantine, who analyzed some photos from the recent Christmas Day services, Markle is easing her way into the royal family, who is welcoming her with open arms.

Two of Constantine’s observations, in particular, seem to squash any rumors of bad blood between Middleton and Markle: According to her, Prince William and his bride seem to be in a very good place in their relationship, solid and comfortable (meaning there’s no need for any jealousy). Second, she noticed no strain at all between the duchess and Markle, adding that there is a real potential for friendship there, especially if Middleton were to take Markle under her wing.

Could the gossip be wrong?

Despite all the unfounded rumors of a secret feud, Middleton and Markle actually have a lot in common. They’ve both been known to donate time and money to many charitable organizations, they share a similar iconic and classic style, and they both come from sporty backgrounds. Time will tell us what’s in store for these two, but they just might end up becoming good friends.

Next: Here’s what else they have in common, including how they’re style twins.

Markle and Middleton have proven to have a similar sense of style more than a few times. For instance, they both looked killer in red in their similar midi-length dresses. Middleton wore this Preen dress in September 2016 to a reception at the Government House in Victoria, Canada. Markle’s dress is by Jill Jill Stuart, and she wore it to a July 2016 appearance on the Today Show, according to Harper’s Bazaar.

Their moms come from traveling backgrounds

Markle has been guided by her mother in more ways than one. She revealed to Allure in 2014, “My mom was a travel agent, so off-the-beaten-path travel has always been a big part of my life.”

Middleton’s mother also had a travel-related career, working as an air hostess for British Airways. According to Hello! Magazine, it’s “where she met fellow steward and now-husband Michael Middleton.”

They’re both modernizing royalty

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge aren’t afraid to break (or at least bend) the royal rulebook when necessary. It’s a trait passed down by Princess Diana, which has effectively aided the modernization of the royal family. For starters, William and Middleton married for love instead of gain, keep a pretty low profile, and are trying to give their children the most normal life possible.

Harry and Markle are definitely following in their footsteps, considering Markle doesn’t exactly fit the mold of women in the British royal family. She’s American, biracial, an actress, and divorced; however, the queen didn’t hesitate to give her stamp of approval. According to CNN, “High-profile members of the British royal family marrying who they want — and not who they should — has been a gradual process.”

Their rings have a connection to Princess Diana

When William proposed to Middleton with his mother’s engagement ring, Diana’s legacy was, in turn, passed down. The stunning 12-carat sapphire ring was a symbol of Diana’s rebellion. She chose it herself out of the Garrard jewelry collection catalog, rather than having the ring custom-made for her.

After Diana’s tragic death in 1997, the ring was kept in the family. However, it wasn’t passed down to William — it was given to Harry. Luckily, Harry described Middleton as “like a sister,” and honored his brother with the ring for their engagement.

The connection to Diana wasn’t lost on the ring Harry had custom-made for Markle. According to Fortune, “The center stone is from Botswana, a country where the couple has spent some time together. That diamond is flanked by two diamonds from Princess Diana’s personal collection.”

Nottingham Cottage has been announced as the location that Harry and Markle would move into together at Kensington Palace — and it’s giving us some major flashbacks. It’s the same cottage William and Middleton moved into when they were first married before moving to Anmer Hall.

According to Daily Mail, Harry and Markle might already be searching for a more permanent home. One of their ideal options is a “country retreat,” potentially in “Norfolk, close to the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge’s home Anmer Hall.”

November seems to be an important month for royal relationships. Markle was first referred to as Harry’s girlfriend in November 2016 and announced their engagement one year later in November 2017.

Back in 2010, November was also the month chosen to announce William and Kate’s intent to wed.
