Who is Kirsten Corley, Chance the Rapper’s Fiance?
Chance the Rapper (born Chancelor Jonathan Bennett) is a three-time Grammy Award winner and celebrated artist. Yet somehow, his girlfriend (now fiance!) Kirsten Corley manages to fly under the radar as Chance gains popularity.
Chance, 25, proposed to Corley in their hometown, Chicago, in the presence of his brother Taylor at their Fourth of July celebration. “Proposed In The Hunninds! @chancetherapper You A Real One! 7-4-18,” Taylor captioned his celebratory Instagram post.
The July 4 proposal was perfect
The Instagram account for The Shade Room posted a heartwarming video of Chance proposing to his girlfriend of three years. “Kirsten Katrina Corley, will you make me a man and be my wife?” he asked. In a rare moment of disclosure, Chance shared to his Twitter that Corley said “yes.”
Corley is the mother of Chance’s child
As an Elite Daily reporter found trying to report on Corley when she was just Chance’s girlfriend, the woman keeps a super low profile. Like, despite stalking (for the purpose of an article, of course) it’s tough to find out much about Corley.
However, Chance’s music does disclose a few things about their love. In an interview with Oyster Magazine (which Corley attended), Chance joked about how long they’d been dating as well as admitted his song, “Interlude (That’s Love),” is about her.
In reality, the couple has been together since 2013. Their daughter, Kensli Bennett, was born in September 2015. Their relationship hit a rocky patch shortly after; when Kensli was just six months old, Corley filed legal documents requesting to be Kensli’s “sole caretaker” and asked for child support payment from Chance.
By 2017 Corley withdrew the request and Bennett revealed the two were living together again.
Chance gives her shoutouts on social media
One thing is clear if you follow Chance on his Instagram or Twitter: the rapper loves his daughter and her mother as well as their life together. He captioned a photo of his daughter with a shoutout to their tiny family. “Nothing I’m doing currently would be possible without this girl right here. She’s so kind and loving and brilliant and beautiful. And I wouldn’t have her without her mother, so thank you for creating and raising the greatest gift I’ve ever received. Cannot wait to get back to this.”
Chance also dedicated his take on the #SoGoneChallenge to Corley and freestyled about their relationship. He called Corley the “most badass chick on the planet,” and addressed how leaving her was a mistake.
The rapper paid tribute to his girlfriend on her birthday, May 31. “From the beginning beginning to the end end. You are my oldest and best friend. You are responsible for everyone of the most wonderful things in my life. I’m forever grateful that God made me find you, and even more grateful that you made me find God. Forever and ever babe. Happy Birthday,” he wrote.
She clearly inspires him
The rapper also gave a shout out to his fiance and daughter during what we’d assume was one of the proudest moments of his life: his Grammy acceptance speech. “I wanna thank God for my mother and my father who’ve supported me since I was young. For Kirsten and Kensli, for all of Chicago,” he said in his acceptance speech for Best New Artist.
“Independence means freedom — I do it with these folks right here,” he added. “Glory be to God, I claim the victory in the name of the lord, let’s go!”
