Just about everyone hopes to get an invitation to Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s wedding. Rumors have been flying about who will and won’t be there. However, one person who might not be attending is Donald Trump. Here’s the real reason why Donald Trump probably won’t get an invite to Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s wedding.
The wedding of the year
Almost every time you scroll through your social media feed or read the latest news post, you’ll see something about the royal wedding. The only thing most people know for sure is that the ceremony will take place May 19, 2018. Some have been buzzing about who will be a bridesmaid, who will walk Meghan down the aisle, and who is going to be Prince Harry’s best man. Another thing some people wonder about is whether Donald Trump will get an invite.
Members of Meghan Markle’s family are also in the dark about who will get invited. Thomas Markle Jr., Meghan’s half-brother, said he doesn’t think he will be invited, but that he hopes he will. It appears Meghan’s half-sister, Samantha Grant, also wants to attend. The Mirror reported she recently begged Meghan for forgiveness and desires to be reunited. Things haven’t been smooth between the two, partly because Samantha has been saying unflattering things about Meghan in the media. In one interview, Samantha referred to Meghan as a “social climber,” reports The Sun.
It would be no surprise if Trump didn’t get an invite, considering some of the distasteful comments he has made about women and people of color. Most recently, he allegedly made derogatory comments about El Salvador as well as Haitians and African countries, reports NBC News. In response, the United Nations human rights office condemned Trump’s remarks as racist, and some leaders are demanding an apology. Meghan and Prince Harry are both heavily involved in social justice causes, so some of the president’s views may not sit well with them. However, that’s not the primary reason he might not be invited.
The reason Donald Trump probably won’t get an invitation
Trump most likely won’t be in attendance, but the reason doesn’t have to do with his unpopular views. Royal biographer Duncan Larcombe told Town & Country that diplomatic concerns are the reason Trump probably won’t receive an invitation. Members of the royal family must remain neutral when it comes to politics. In addition, Larcombe told Town & Country that Trump doesn’t have a personal relationship with Prince Harry.
Some think Ivanka wants to go
The Twittersphere was not pleased after Ivanka Trump tweeted a congratulatory message to Meghan and Prince Harry on Dec. 15, 2017 — three weeks after the couple made their official announcement. Some people speculated Ivanka was trying to score an invitation for herself and husband Jared Kushner. Although some might disapprove of what appears to be a selfish move to attend the royal wedding, Meghan has spoken highly of Ivanka in the past, praising her for being an ambitious career woman in a 2014 interview for her blog, The Tig.
Celebrities who might attend
Larcombe doesn’t seem to think Trump will be invited, but it looks like several celebrities might be at the wedding. Some are guessing Quantico Star Priyanka Chopra, a close friend of Meghan’s for more than two years, will be on the guest list. Another close friend of Meghan’s who might be there is tennis champion Serena Williams. The two have been friends since 2014. It’s also possible some of Meghan’s co-stars from Suits will make an appearance.
You can attend the royal wedding — sort of
If you want to see Meghan Markle and Prince Harry get married, you can. You’ll even have the best seat in the house. The only thing is, it won’t be in person. The couple’s spokesman said the royal wedding will be televised, reports US Weekly. So, don’t feel so bad if you can’t get an invitation, you’ll probably be more comfortable on your couch, anyway.
