Find out what the Fixer Upper star really thinks about being pregnant with her fifth baby, including why it feels like she’s pregnant for the first time all over again (page 4) and what her kids have to say (page 5), ahead.
1. It was a complete shock
According to a Magnolia blog post written by Joanna, baby number five was a complete shock. “If you would have told me that I’d end this season of the show pregnant with our fifth baby, I would’ve laughed,” writes Gaines.
That said, Chip and Joanna have folk band Johnnyswim to thank for their new bundle of joy. “You might recall a few months back.. the ever amazing, ever romantic @JOHNNYSWIM was in Waco,” Chip shared in a tweet in January 2018. “And they put on a little too romantic of a concert.. anyways, one thing led to another, & we are officially pregnant. And I could not be more EXCITED,” he added.

2. They had a gut feeling about ‘Fixer Upper’
In her book Magnolia Story, Joanna talks about how she always has these gut feelings that lead her in the right direction — she had a similar gut feeling about the future of Fixer Upper.
“Like the entire Fixer Upper opportunity as a whole, life has a way of surprising us,” she shared on her blog. “With our little ones getting bigger, we had this gut feeling that it was time to step back and focus on them and our businesses here in Waco, Texas,” she added. “And although that’s why we thought we decided to step away from the show, we now realize with this little one on the way that there was a bigger plan in place for us all along.”

3. She loves to take naps and eat
Joanna has had no problem relishing in all the things pregnancy brings — especially when it comes to napping and eating. “Pregnancy has been so fun, in fact my two favorite things to do are take naps and eat,” she wrote in a blog post.

4. It’s been over eight years since she was last pregnant
It’s been over eight years since she was pregnant with her youngest Emmie Kay and this one feels a bit different — mostly because she had her first four kids so close together. “I joke with my friends that it feels like it’s my first time being pregnant,” she wrote in a blog post.

5. Her kids don’t remember her being pregnant
Turns out, her kids are just as excited as she and chip are! “The best thing about all of this is the excitement that my kids have shown for their new baby brother. Since I had our first four babies so close to one another, none of them actually remember me being pregnant,” she shared in a blog post. “They love my growing belly (and boy is it growing), and they cannot wait to meet him,” she added.

6. She’s craving Magnolia Table
It should come of no surprise that Joanna’s top pregnancy cravings come from her Magnolia Table menu. “I am currently craving the pancakes, chicken salad sandwich, lavender latte, and the Gaines Bros Burger with the jalapeño drip jam,” she wrote in a blog post. “My stomach is growling as I type this,” she added.

7. She is busier than ever
Pregnancy hasn’t stopped Joanna from keeping busy. In fact, the Fixer Upper star is busier than ever. She has a cookbook out in April 2018, followed by a design book and Chip and her are building a new housing development in Waco (in addition to a few flip projects). On top of that, she and Chip have a successful Target collection, a deal with Living Spaces, and are planning their Silo District Marathon.
