Why Waiting for Change Is the Worst Thing You Can Do

Change doesn’t come overnight, and it sure doesn’t come magically. Change is something you have to work for. Whether it’s changing your habits, weight, outlook, or attitude, change is something we all must work very hard for.

Each year we make resolutions to change ourselves for the better in some way, shape, or form. But oftentimes, we make empty resolutions that keep coming back the next year, and even the next. Your time to change is now, and being proactive will only help you in the long run.

If you don’t get up and achieve your goals – or the change you want to see in your life – you will never see it. The world will not cater to your wants or needs. Waiting for change is one of the worst things you can do, and here are a few reasons why.

1. No one else will tell you where to go

At the end of the day, you are on your own in terms of when and how you will steer your life. Friends and family are merely support systems you can lean on as you make positive changes in your life. No one will tell you where to go, or solve your problems for you.

2. You’ll wake up in 10 years unhappy with your life

Life moves too fast, and not only for the workaholics in the world. Ten years will pass before you know it, and you may ask yourself where the time has gone, or why you wasted all these years not accomplishing what you’ve always wanted to do. If you sit around waiting for someone else to complete your goals, they’ll never happen. If you’ve always dreamed of starting a business, losing 50 pounds, running a marathon or taking up cooking classes, do it now. You only have one life to live, why waste it on things that don’t mean as much to you?

There’s a saying by an unknown author, “The grass is always greener where you water it.” Repeat this to yourself daily. Act where you want change, and you will see new growth in your life.

3. You have to make the moment perfect

There is no such thing as a perfect moment to do something. Making what is best of the moment you’re in is the only way to be successful. Hard work and determination to achieve a certain goal pay off in the long run.

4. Without changing your focus, you will fail

Taking ownership of your life is hard. In doing this, you realize you may have been focusing on negative aspects instead of the positive parts of your life. If you focus on the bad things that are happening to you, you will inevitably fail because negative thoughts drag you down. Shifting your focus to what you CAN achieve and WILL achieve.

5. Tomorrow never comes; you only have today

All those things you promised you’d do “tomorrow”… did you do them? Didn’t think so. The classic “I’ll leave that for tomorrow” seems to get lost time and time again in the clutter of our lives. We only ever have today. The longer you wait for change, the less of a chance that change will actually happen. If you set a goal and want it badly enough, there’s never a better time than right now. If you keep pushing it off, you don’t want it badly enough.

When we wait for change, the only person we hurt is ourselves. The world will not change in accordance with our goals. Nobody can satisfy these goals for us. With hard work, determination, a positive attitude and refreshed outlook on life, anything is possible. Get up and act.
