Will Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s Marriage Last? A Source Close to the Royal Family Is Making Us Doubtful
Meghan Markle and Prince Harry were married on May 19, 2018, and the entire world is excited. And though Meghan may not have appeared to be “royal material” at first, it seems even the queen has warmed up to this American actress.
But it might not be all fairy-tale romance. One photographer close to the royals explains Harry’s displaying some worrying behavior (page 6). Not only that, but he shares why the two might not last forever based on their families and pasts.
1. Photographer Arthur Edwards calls Meghan and Harry ‘birds with a broken wing’
Arthur Edwards is a photographer who works with the British tabloid The Sun, according to Yahoo. And thanks to Edwards, we get an inside peek into the lives of the royals. He’s certainly seen a lot — and now, he’s coming forward with his assessment of this royal relationship.
Oddly enough, he calls Meghan and Harry “birds with a broken wing” because “they’re both not from stable families.” He notes Meghan has seen many failed relationships within her family, which could spell trouble for her in the future.

2. Meghan’s first marriage deteriorated very quickly
The Sun reports Meghan met film producer Trevor Engelson back in 2004, and they dated for six years before getting married. It was just a few years later, however, when the two divorced. They cited “irreconcilable differences” as the reason — but it turns out Meghan might have blindsided Trevor with the split.
Biographer Andrew Morton wrote about the royal, saying Meghan was “now building a new world for herself” — one she didn’t want Trevor to be a part of.
Next: This fact about Meghan’s family also makes us question whether her new marriage will last.
3. Her parents are also divorced
We certainly aren’t judging Meghan for this fact. But Edwards explains Meghan’s family history makes him question whether she can hold down a stable marriage that’ll last a lifetime.
Regarding Meghan’s family, Edwards says, “On both sides, the marriages have lasted for two or three years, then split up,” Yahoo reports. “So, marriage and abandonment are part of family lore, and with this family, she’s got to make a real go of it. There’s no walking away.”
Next: This family member of Meghan’s has severe doubts about the marriage.
4. Meghan’s half-brother had nasty things to say about her
Here’s another reason we’re worried about the fate of this royal couple: Thomas Markle Jr. We’re not so sure what exactly their relationship was like growing up. But now, Thomas has some seriously scathing remarks about his half-sister.
In Touch Weekly reports Thomas penned a letter to Prince Harry, saying Harry’s marriage to Meghan is slated to be “the biggest mistake in royal wedding history.” He then called her a “jaded, shallow, conceited woman that will make a joke of you and the royal family heritage.”
Next: The letter to Harry gets even worse.
5. Thomas says Meghan is tearing her family apart with this wedding
In the letter, Thomas also claimed Meghan cares more about what strangers think of her than what her family thinks, according to In Touch Weekly. He continued his letter by saying she didn’t invite her father to the wedding because she let her small amount of fame get to her head. “She easily forgets if it wasn’t for her father she’d still be busing tables and babysitting to pay her old debt off,” he wrote.
We hope Meghan patched up any misunderstandings with her dad, who was initially reported to be walking her down the aisle (though this didn’t occur). But still — what could Harry be thinking?
Next: Harry’s reaction to the media isn’t looking good.
6. Harry’s reportedly become ‘very withdrawn’
Prince Harry usually gives off a bubbly demeanor. But Edwards reports Harry has become “very withdrawn,” according to Yahoo. “He doesn’t say ‘good morning’ to us anymore.”
It seems the letter from Thomas, as well as the constant media backlash over Meghan, has finally gotten to the royal. The New York Times notes Edwards, who has photographed the royal family for over 40 years, didn’t even have access to the wedding.
Next: It seems Harry’s cold shoulder isn’t too surprising after all.
7. Could the press be getting under the couple’s skin?
The New York Times notes only one reporter was allowed to enter the chapel for the wedding, and four photojournalists got to take photos outside. The carriage route and castle grounds had more reporters. But still, it seems the two have had enough of people in their business.
As Edwards told the publication, “He and Meghan have seen what’s been written and said, ‘We don’t want anyone near the wedding.’ That’s a clear message, yeah.” Another journalist even mentioned that the royals “actually hate the British press.”
Next: The royal family’s dark past may come back to haunt this new marriage.
8. Harry can’t hide the heavy royal family secrets, either
Meghan is getting a lot of flak from the media, but Harry’s feeling the pressure from his family’s past, too. He’s constantly thrust into the spotlight due to what his family members are up to. And Harry’s been involved in a scandalous past, which includes racial slurs and Nazi attire.
Harry’s generally very well-received by the public, despite any mishaps of the past. But living under a microscope can certainly put a lot of pressure on a relationship. We’ll see how the couple navigates their first year of marriage — and hopefully, both Meghan and Harry can make it work for life.
