Most of the celebrities on this list could probably afford a personal chef (or two, or three) at this point in their careers — but it’s nice to see that even fame and fortune can’t change what kinds of home-cooked foods tempt us the most. The following recipes vary from sweet to savory to spicy to everything in-between. Try one of these 7 mouthwatering recipes from a few of your favorite celebrities!
1. Zac Brown’s Chocolate Peanut Butter Biscuit Pudding
Every descriptor in this dish’s name sounds as delicious as the next. Apparently, the Zac Brown Band has more up their sleeve than just country and folk jams — they’ll cook for you, too!
“We sit down with our fans before every show and eat a gourmet meal that we made for them,” frontman Zac Brown tells Parade. The recipe takes an hour and a half to make and yields 16 servings.
- 8 large day-old biscuits
- 1 cup heavy whipping cream
- 1 cup of half and half
- 3 cup white sugar (reserve 1 cup to sprinkle on top before cooking)
- 2 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
- 2 eggs
- 4 tablespoons melted butter
- 1 cup peanut butter
For Rum Sauce
- 12 ounces condensed milk
- 4 ounces spiced rum
- ½ tablespoon cinnamon
- ½ teaspoon ground cloves
Directions: Crumble biscuits in a large mixing bowl. Add whipping cream, half and half, sugar, chocolate chips, eggs, butter, and peanut butter. Mix well. Place in a 9 by 13-inch baking dish and top with remaining sugar.
Bake at 400 degrees Fahrenheit covered for 1 hour, then bake uncovered for 20 minutes to brown the top. While pudding is baking, prepare rum sauce by mixing together condensed milk, rum, cinnamon, cloves and then warming it up. Top pudding with rum sauce.
2. Tom Cruise’s Spaghetti Carbonara
Pasta, cheese, and bacon. Is there any greater combination? This tasty trifecta comes to you piping hot and fresh via Tom Cruise’s personal recipe arsenal, as reported by Oprah. Recipe yields 4 servings and takes about an hour to complete.
- ½ inch olive oil (for frying pan)
- 2 cloves minced garlic
- 1 chopped onion
- 8 to 12 thick slices Italian bacon
- 4 eggs
- 2 packages spaghetti
- 2 cups grated Parmesan cheese
Directions: In a frying pan, combine ½ inch of olive oil, 2 cloves of minced garlic, one chopped onion, and the Italian bacon cut into small squares. Let simmer for about a half-hour, being careful not to let the oil get to a boiling point. In a bowl, beat 4 eggs with lots of salt and fresh ground pepper.
Bring a pan of salted water to a boil. Cook both packages of spaghetti until al dente, drain, and immediately add egg mixture to pasta. The eggs are actually cooked by the pasta. (Make sure the eggs are thoroughly cooked before proceeding.) Stir the egg mixture until it is well mixed. Pour in the mixture from the frying pan and stir. Finish with the Parmesan cheese and serve!
3. Oprah’s Unfried Chicken
This chicken is crispy, delicious, and contains half the fat of its fried counterparts! Not only that, but it has Oprah’s seal of approval — making it a culinary can’t-miss, according to Epicurious. Recipe takes an hour and 40 minutes including cook time and yields 6 servings.
- 6 chicken drumsticks, skin removed
- 3 whole chicken breasts, halved and skin removed
- 3 ½ cups ice water
- 1 cup plain nonfat yogurt
- 1 cup Italian breadcrumbs
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 tablespoon Old Bay seasoning
- ½ teaspoon garlic powder
- ½ teaspoon Creole seasoning
- ⅛ teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
- Dash of cayenne pepper
- ½ teaspoon dried thyme
- ½ teaspoon basil
- ½ teaspoon dried oregano
Directions: Preheat the oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit. Coat a baking sheet with three sprays of the vegetable oil. Put the chicken in a large bowl with the ice water. Put the yogurt in a medium bowl. Set both bowls aside.
Toss all the breading ingredients into a large tightly sealed plastic bag. Seal and shake well to mix. Remove two pieces of chicken from the ice water. Roll each piece in the yogurt. Put the chicken into the plastic bag reseal and shake to coat thoroughly.
Transfer the breaded chicken to the prepared baking sheet. Repeat the process until all 12 pieces are breaded. Spray the chicken lightly with the vegetable oil. Place the baking sheet on the bottom shelf of the oven and bake for 1 hour turning pieces every 20 minutes to allow for even browning. Serve hot or at room temperature.
4. Tina Knowles’ Cajun Green Bean Stir-Fry
Beyoncé is one of the world’s most beloved superstars, and this dish — perfected by her mother, Tina — is at the top of the singer-actress’s must-eat list! “It is the most tasty, delicious dish. And it’s green beans, so you don’t feel too guilty about eating them. They taste like steak!” Sounds like a winner to us. This recipe – courtesy of People – yields 8 servings and takes just 15 minutes to complete!
- 4 slices bacon, finely chopped
- 1 medium onion, chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 pounds green beans, trimmed and sliced in half (8 cups)
- ¾ pound baby potatoes, lightly steamed and halved
- 1 tablespoon seasoning salt
- 1 teaspoon ground black pepper
- ½ teaspoon cayenne pepper
- ¼ cup water
Directions: In a very large skillet or wok, fry bacon until crisp, 3 to 4 minutes. Add onion and garlic and cook, stirring, until browned, an additional 4 to 5 minutes.
Add green beans, potatoes, seasonings and water and cook, stirring constantly, until beans are just cooked through and tender-crisp, 4 to 5 minutes.
5. Gwyneth Paltrow’s Favorite Turkey Meatballs
Gwyneth Paltrow posted this recipe, compliments of her friend Julia, on her website Goop. The recipe yields about 4 servings (approximately 2 dozen small meatballs) and takes about an hour, plus 20 minutes of simmering, to complete. Turkey makes for a slightly leaner substitute than the standard beef meatball, and these meatballs are a yummy accompaniment to a hot spaghetti dinner.
- ¼ cup (½ stick) lightly salted butter, room temperature
- 5 cloves garlic, pushed through a press
- 1 tablespoon finely chopped parsley
- ¼ teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
- 1 baguette
- ½ cup finely grated parmesan
Directions: Preheat the oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit. Stir together the butter, garlic, parsley, and pepper until well-combined. Cut the baguette in half horizontally and spread each cut side with the garlic butter, being sure to use every last bit. Sandwich the bread back together, wrap in a sheet of tin foil and put in the oven for 10 minutes. Turn on the broiler, unwrap the bread, evenly sprinkle the parmesan over both sides of the bread and broil until the cheese is melted and browned. Check after one minute. Cut into pieces and serve.
6. William Shatner’s Cappuccino Chip Muffins
Coffee and chocolate are two of life’s greatest pleasure, and when William Shatner isn’t busy hawking Priceline on television, he’s baking up a sweet, rich storm using these two tasty ingredients. You can even watch Shatner bake this favorite on the Fran Drescher Show. Shatner’s recipe, transcribed by Cookie Madness, makes 8 to 12 muffins and takes about 40 minutes to complete.
- 2 cups flour
- ½ cup granulated sugar
- 2 ½ teaspoons baking powder
- 2 teaspoons instant espresso powder
- ½ teaspoon cinnamon
- ½ teaspoon salt
- 1 large egg (room temp)
- 1 cup milk (room temp)
- ½ cup (1 stick) butter, melted and cooled
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- ¾ cup mini chocolate chips or equivalent of other chips
Directions: Preheat oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit. Spray a 12 cup muffin tin with flour-added cooking spray. For bigger muffins, spray 8 of the cups. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, espresso powder, cinnamon, and salt.
In a medium bowl, whisk egg lightly. Whisk in milk, melted butter, and vanilla extract. Make a well in center of dry ingredients and pour in milk mixture. Stir just until evenly blended. Stir in chocolate chips.
Divide batter among 12 or 8 greased muffin cups. Bake 15 to 18 minutes, or until a cake tester inserted in center of muffin comes out clean.
7. Al Roker’s Spicy Beef Chili
Television personality and meteorologist extraordinaire Al Roker shares this recipe for a zesty, beefy, and hearty home-cooked meal. Serve alongside cornbread and rice to temper the heat. The dish takes 2 hours and 45 minutes to complete, and is well worth the wait! This recipe comes via Food and yields 6 to 8 servings.
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
- 2 pounds chuck steaks, cut into ½-inch dice
- Kosher salt
- fresh ground pepper
- 1 pound hot Italian sausage, casings removed and meat broken into 1-inch pieces
- 1 large white onion, chopped
- 6 garlic cloves, minced
- 1 tablespoon chili powder
- 1 tablespoon sweet paprika
- 2 teaspoons ground cumin
- 1 (28 ounce) can diced tomatoes
- 1 cup water
- 1 (15 ounce) can pinto beans, drained
- 1 (15 ounce) can cannellini beans, drained
- 1 (15 ounce) can kidney beans, drained
Directions: In a large enameled cast-iron casserole or soup pot, heat the oil. Season the chuck with salt and pepper. Add half of the chuck and cook over moderately high heat until browned, about 5 minutes. Using a slotted spoon, transfer the meat to a plate. Repeat with the remaining chuck.
Add the sausage and cook until browned, breaking it up with a spoon, about 4 minutes. Add the sausage to the diced chuck. Add the chopped onion to the casserole and cook over moderate heat until tender, about 4 minutes. Add the garlic and cook for 2 minutes. Stir in the chili powder, paprika, cumin and the chuck, sausage and any accumulated juices. Cook, stirring until fragrant, about 1 minute.
Add the tomatoes and their juices and the water. Cover and simmer over moderately low heat for 1 hour. Stir in the beans and simmer uncovered until thickened, about 15 minutes. Season with salt if desired.
Serve the chili in deep bowls, passing the cheese, scallions, sour cream, and cilantro on the side.
