2 Companies Preparing Shareholders for Earnings

The McClatchy Company (NYSE:MNI) will unveil its latest earnings on Tuesday, February 7, 2012. The average estimate of analysts is for profit of 35 cents per share, a decline of 10.3% from the company’s actual earnings for the same quarter a year ago. The average estimate is the same as three months ago. Between one and three months ago, the average estimate was unchanged. It also has not changed during the last month. For the year, analysts are projecting net income of 49 cents per share, a decline of 27.9% from last year.

Last quarter, the company beat estimates by 8 cents, coming in at profit of 12 cents a share versus the estimate of net income of 4 cents a share. It marked the fourth straight quarter of beating estimates. On average, analysts predict $347.8 million in revenue this quarter, a decline of 6% from the year ago quarter. Analysts are forecasting total revenue of $1.26 billion for the year, a decline of 8.7% from last year’s revenue of $1.38 billion.

For the year, analysts are projecting net income of $2.79 per share, a rise of 34.1% from last year.

The company topped estimates last quarter after missing forecasts the quarter prior. In the first quarter, it reported profit of 69 cents per share against a mean estimate of net income of 50 cents per share. In the fourth quarter of the last fiscal year, it missed forecasts by 8 cents. nalysts are projecting a rise of 9.8% in revenue from the year-earlier quarter to $1.05 billion.
