3 Standout Stocks on the Dow Jones Industrial Average

The Dow Jones Industrial Average (NYSE:DIA) is up today 0.13% and stands at 11,721.83. The large stocks below are among the positive performers today.

Boeing Company (NYSE:BA): Positive third quarter earnings report. The company reported a third quarter earnings per share of $1.46, surpassing analysts’ expectations by $0.36. Its revenue of $17.7 billion slightly missed by $0.10 billion. Growth for the quarter was driven by a nine percent year over year increase in the company’s commercial airplanes revenue but level defense, space, and security revenues kept it from going higher. Adding to the positive third quarter report is Boeing’s successful inaugural 787 flight from Tokyo to Hong Kong. The four-hour flight received thumbs-up from passengers. Boeing is up 4.79%.

Merck (NYSE:MRK): Merck rises on the recommendation for the broader use of its Gardasil vaccine. The HPV is vaccine currently recommended for women and girls, but it should now include boys ages 11-12 and boys over 13 who haven’t had the vaccine. This is big for the company as Gardasil brought in $277 million of Merck’s $12.1 billion second quarter sales. Also affecting the stock today is Merck’s impending third quarter earnings report on Thursday. Merck is up 1.40%. Don’t Miss: Merck & Co. Inc. Third Quarter Earnings Sneak Peek.

Pfizer, Inc. (NYSE:PFE): Pfizer may have a suitor for its infant-nutrition business. China’s largest dairy company, Mengniu Dairy (CIADF.PK), has expressed interest; however, with a $10.5 billion bid, it may be tough for the company given its current market cap of HK $43.7 billion ($5.6 billion). Pfizer is up 1.59%.
