Elliott Management Corp. acquired a significant interest in the data storage firm NetApp, pressuring the latter to change its board and examine options to increase shareholder value, according to knowledgeable sources. In reaction, NetApp shares jumped by 6.2 percent, marking the largest gain since November 15. The hedge-fund firm founded by the billionaire Paul Singer, has been in discussions with NetApp for some weeks regarding its proposals, which include a return of cash to shareholders, said the sources, who added that Goldman Sachs Group (NYSE:GS) is collaborating with NetApp to help it examine its options.
