Toyota Motor Corp. (NYSE:TM): Closing price $122.59

Toyota is readying a new push on the domestic full-size pickup market, after seeing its most recent version of the Tundra fall short. Many observers forecast that shopper enthusiasm for the company’s present Tundra model might deter demand for Ford Motor’s F-Series and General Motors’ Chevrolet Silverado pickups, which are the two automakers’ two largest profit generators. Ford and GM typically double-downed to enhance and reinforce their own pickups. Thus, Toyota’s new pickup factory in San Antonio, intended partly to strengthen the Tundra’s all-American credentials, has fought to reach operating capacity. Toyota added the output of its smaller Tacoma at the facility to outweigh fewer Tundra sales.

Tesla Motors Inc. (NASDAQ:TSLA): Closing price $131.74

The popularity of Tesla Motors and its Model S electric car seems to have gotten through the recent debut of BMW’s new i3 battery electric car in New York, London, and Beijing intact.  Shares rose to the 52-week high of $135.37 and closed at $134.62 Monday, up by 4 percent, despite the i3 launch, which suggests that the automaker still dominates the electric car market. The BMW i3 initiates with a lower price tag of $41,000. Compared to the Model S, it is behind Tesla’s car in terms of driving range. The i3 delivers 100 miles per battery charge, which is less than half that of the Model S.
