On Friday, the Securities and Exchange Commission reported that it filed a civil enforcement action against the former Green Mountain employee Chad McGinnis, and others outside the firm, claiming insider trading in the company stock. The firm was recently advised of the government’s inquiry into McGinnis’ activity, and is cooperating fully with the governments investigation. McGinnis had been a manager-level member of the coffee company’s IT department, and has since been terminated for violations of its insider trading policy. There have thus far been no allegations of misconduct on behalf of the firm itself.

Ford Motor Co. (NYSE:F): Closing price $17.50

Moving in on trendy alternative fuel vehicles, it is said that Ford is developing a natural gas version of its widely-popular F-150 pickup trucks for 2014. Such a model would be equipped with a prep kit, including a 3.7 liter V-6 engine, and will sport an option to run either on compressed or liquid natural gas, or gasoline. Already, Ford offers bi-fuel option on its heavy-duty trucks, but the most recent addition would represent a stepping-stone for the iconic company into the CNG-enabled light-duty vehicle sector, which is currently gaining traction in the commercial and retail markets.

Some bulls opine that New York Times Co. is moving a bit closer to paying a quarterly dividend. However, the story has thus far not gotten any sort of endorsement from the new Chief Executive Mark Thompson, whose rationale is that the firm’s business is currently too volatile to support a dividend.
