J.C. Penney & Co. (NYSE:JCP): Current price $14.26

Late Monday, the board of directors of J.C. Penney announced that Myron E. (Mike) Ullman, III, has rejoined the firm as chief executive officer, effective immediately, and is elected to the board. Ullman served as chief executive of Penney’s until late 2011, and succeeds Ron Johnson, who is stepping down and exiting the firm. Chairman Thomas Engibous of the board commented that “we are fortunate to have someone with Mike`s proven experience and leadership abilities to take the reins at the Company at this important time.  He is well-positioned to quickly analyze the situation jcpenney faces and take steps to improve the Company`s performance.”

Ford Motor Company (NYSE:F): Current price $12.81

Ford has filed an application to register the term “inflatable light urban vehicle” as a trademark, said the database of the United States Patent and Trademark Office, according to Bloomberg. The Ford Inside News blog implied that the iconic automaker could be thinking about making a foldable car or a small three-wheeled electric vehicle for crowded cities.

Avon Products (NYSE:AVP): Current price $20.79

On Monday, Avon released further details of its previously reported $400 million Cost Saving Initiative by 2016. The latest steps include a world headcount reduction of over 400 associates across all regions and functions, and the reconfiguring or closure of certain smaller, underperforming markets, mostly in Europe, Middle East & Africa, including the exit of the Republic of Ireland market. These moves, as were those previously announced, are targeted at reinforcing efficiencies and focusing resources on high priority markets and activities.  The firm expects that these actions should be largely completed before the end of this year.

BlackBerry (NASDAQ:BBRY): Current price $14.79

Presales for the keypad version of the new BlackBerry 10 smartphone are ongoing in the United Kingdom. Two major retailers there, Carphone Warehouse and Phones4u, commenced selling the product on their websites over the weekend. The BlackBerry Q10 phone should arrive in stores near the end of April. Many longtime BlackBerry users have chosen to wait for it rather than buy the touchscreen model that appeared in stores earlier in 2013.
