Ford Motor Co. (NYSE:F): Closing price $16.71

The historic automaker is slashing the price on its Focus Electric compact car by 10 percent, as it joins other car makers in lowering prices on electric vehicles. Ford will decrease the price on its Focus EV by $4,000 for the 2014 model year. The announcement arrives less than a month after an executive promised the company would not follow price cuts made by rivals. Wal-Mart Stores, Inc. (NYSE:WMT): Closing price $76.78

On Tuesday, Wal-Mart delivered an ultimatum to District of Columbia lawmakers, telling them just before a decisive vote on a new minimum wage that at least three planned Wal-Mart stores will not open in the city should a “super-minimum-wage” proposal become law. The D.C. Council bill would mandate that retailers with corporate sales of $1 billion or more, operating in spaces of 75,000 square feet or larger, pay their workers no less than $12.50 per hour. The city’s minimum wage is presently $8.25 an hour. Mayor Vincent C. Gray termed Wal-Mart’s move “immensely discouraging,” indicating that he might consider vetoing the bill, while also wondering whether to seek reelection.

Liz Dunn at Macquarie Capital in New York commented in a new research note, “Women continue to note that underwear are visible through the pants when they bend over. The company notes on its website that customers should do a downward facing dog in a mirror to test the product.”
