4 Consumer Stock Stories to Peruse on Friday

Toyota Motor Corporation (NYSE:TM): Closing price $103.93

The automaker is recalling 209,000 FJ Cruiser SUVs because their front seatbelt retractors might fall off; FJ Cruisers from the model years 2007 through 2013 model years are included in this recall. More specifically, Toyota explained that the driver and front passenger seatbelts are mounted on the vehicle’s rear doors. If the doors are closed forcefully over a period of time, cracks might form in the door panel surrounding the seatbelt retractor and the retractor could detach. Thus far, no injuries have been reported from the defect.

Avon Products (NYSE:AVP): Closing price $20.10

Avon directors have gotten a dismissal of a shareholder lawsuit claiming that they failed to engage in a “substantive dialogue” with Coty on a $10 billion takeover offer. New York Supreme Court Justice Eileen Bransten granted a request to throw out claims by five shareholders that the 12 directors breached their fiduciary duty by not entering into talks with Coty. Beyond that, Bransten disallowed the shareholders from refiling their claims, adding that “The board offered reasons for rejecting Coty’s earlier offers and sought legal and financial advice to vet Coty’s final proposal, demonstrating that the board could have been making a business judgment.”

The Walt Disney Company (NYSE:DIS): Closing price $57.58
