Goldman Sachs Asset Management LP has hiked its holdings of Malaysia’s ringgit and the Philippine peso of late, on the prospect that interest rate increases might ignite appreciation. This is based upon estimates by Philip Moffitt, who is chief of Asia-Pacific fixed income at Goldman Sachs Asset, which manages $860 billion. A majority number of economists in Bloomberg surveys forecast that the ringgit will strengthen by 5 percent against the dollar by the end of 2013 and a 7.3 percent gain is seen for the peso.
Citigroup Inc. (NYSE:C): Current price $49.09
The number-three domestic lender by assets has recruited the former Bank of America Corp. mortgage chief Barbara Desoer to be chief operating officer of its banking subsidiary Citibank NA. Desoer will oversee the governance of Citi’s consumer division, and report to its Chief Executive Gene McQuade, said a memo from the latter. Desoer led Bank of America’s home lending business and was once on the list of potential CEOs for the Charlotte-based bank.
U.S. Bancorp (NYSE:USB): Current price $36.69
U.S. Bank is improving its automated teller machine fleet by upgrading it to the Windows 7 operating system. Diebold, Inc. is conducting the upgrade, initiating the industry’s first ATM conversions to Windows 7 and setting the number-five commercial bank in the United States at the vanguard of meeting new Payment Card Industry security requirements. The upgrade should be complete early next year.
Barclays Plc (NYSE:BCS): Current price $17.63
Barclays has appointed John Miller to the newly-created position of chief of banking for the Americas, and named Paul Parker to manage mergers and acquisitions on a worldwide basis. The United Kingdom lender also reported that Ros Stephenson will become chairman of banking globally, according to a Wednesday memo to employees from the co-chief executive officers of the corporate and investment bank, Tom King and Eric Bommensath.
