Citigroup Inc. (NYSE:C): Current price $50.98

Citigroup’s former Chairman and Chief Executive Sanford “Sandy” Weill and his wife, Joan, have given $100 million to Cornell University’s medical school, which brings their total donations to over $600 million. In a statement on its website, Weill Cornell Medical College in New York said that the gift also originated from the Weill Family Foundation and will fund research into cures for cancer, diabetes, obesity, and metabolic disorders.

Weill received a bachelor’s degree from Cornell in 1955 prior to a career in finance that covered half of a century and brought him the fortune that Forbes estimated at $1.5 billion in 2006.

The Goldman Sachs Group Inc. (NYSE:GS): Current price $165.08

Analyst Keith Horowitz at Citigroup believes that possible new leverage capital rules for large banks may hit Goldman Sachs and Morgan Stanley the hardest as United States regulators on July 9 proposed leverage capital requirements for domestic banks, coming only one week after the Federal Reserve completed its rules to implement the Basel III capital requirements.

For several years, the big banks have been progressing towards full compliance with Basel III, with the majority posting estimated June 30 Basel III Tier 1 common equity ratios at or close to the levels that will be mandated when the rules become fully effective in January 2019.

MetLife, Inc. (NYSE:MET): Current price $49.65

MetLife announced Tuesday that Nela D’Agosta is coming to the firm as managing director of marketing and investor services for the private capital investors group of MetLife Investment Management, LLC, which is its institutional investment manager. In her new function, D’Agosta will be responsible for marketing and relationship management endeavors for MetLife Private Capital Investors. She joins MetLife from Goldman Sachs Asset Management where she has served as senior relationship manager and, prior to that, the world chief of Insurance Client Relationship Management.
