On Friday, Baxter announced that it has successfully finalized its purchase of the privately held Gambro AB, a world medical tech firm and developer of dialysis products based in Lund, Sweden. The transaction further reinforces Baxter’s global renal leadership and gives the firm with a comprehensive product and therapies repertoire through which to address the requirements of patients in the large and growing dialysis market. The aggregate cash consideration for the transaction was roughly $3.9 billion. The effects of the acquisition were included in Baxter’s third quarter and full-year 2013 guidance.

The Carlyle Group LP (NASDAQ:CG): Current price $25.05

Inside sources indicate that Carlyle Group and Hellman & Friedman LLC are among the private equity firms vying for One Call Care Management Inc., a medical cost containment services firm that is on sale for over $1.5 billion. The sources report that Advent International Corp., Apax Partners LLP, General Atlantic LLC and Berkshire Partners LLC are also competing for One Call with meetings with the firm’s management beginning this month. One Call’s private equity owner, Odyssey Investment Partners LLC, has hired Jefferies Group LLC to manage the sale process.

American Tower Corp. (NYSE:AMT): Current price $71.94

American Tower said Friday that it will purchase the entirety of the outstanding common membership interests of MIP Tower Holdings LLC, a private real estate investment trust, which is the parent of Global Tower Partners, and related firms, for around $4.8 billion, subject to the uaual adjustments. GTP is majority owned by Macquarie Infrastructure Partners, along with minority partners including the Dutch pension fund manager PGGM and management. GTP owns and operates roughly 5,400 domestic towers, 800 domestic property interests under third-party communications sites, and holds management rights to in excess of 9,000 domestic sites, which are mostly rooftop assets.

Hawaiian Telcom Holdco, Inc. (NASDAQ:HCOM): Current price $25.35

Hawaii Telcom Holdco announced Friday that it will acquire SystemMetrics Corp in a cash transaction valued at about $16 million, subject to standard working capital adjustments and earn-out provisions. SystemMetrics presently generates annual revenues of some $8 million and pro-forma EBITDA of roughly $2 million. The corporation will become a wholly-owned subsidiary of Hawaiian Telcom Services Company, Inc.
