4 Merger and Acquisitions Stock Stories To Start Off the Trading Week

Anheuser-Busch InBev (NYSE:BUD): Current price $98.98

The brewing major’s proposed $20.1 billion purchase of Grupo Modelo moved a step closer to fruition late on Friday, as AB InBev reached a tentative accord with the Department of Justice, which had sued to disallow the transaction on the ground that it could suppress competition in the United States. The break in the dispute came when AB InBev subsequently made a side deal that gives control of the output of Corona and other Modelo beers sold domestically to its smaller competitor Constellation Brands. While confirming the deal late Friday, the Department reiterated that any resolution would need to fully protect domestic consumers by preserving the competition that Grupo Modelo presently provides, while giving a buyer of the sale the freedom and capability to compete robustly in the future.
