4 Mergers and Acquisitions Stock Stories Making Monday Headlines

Weyerhaeuser Co. (NYSE:WY): Current price $30.35

Two sources told Reuters on Sunday that Tri Pointe Homes Inc. is close to an agreement to purchase Weyerhaeuser Co.’s homebuilding unit at around $2.7 billion, which upon completion would make it one of the 20 biggest homebuilders in the United States. The parties are working toward an announcement possibly as early as Monday, according to the sources, who warned that the proposed transaction is still subject to last-minute details and that the timetable may yet be modified.

Men’s Wearhouse Inc. (NYSE:MW): Current price $42.05

On Thursday, Jos. A Bank Clothiers indicated that it would consider hiking its buyout offer for Men’s Wearhouse if allowed access to nonpublic information. In a surprise move, the latter on Monday refused to grant its rival Jos. A Bank access to the data it could use to decide whether to potentially up a $2.3 billion bid. Shares of both firms are off in afternoon trading, but Men’s Wearhouse is down by 2.6 percent, which is much more than the 0.5 percent dip that the prospective buyer’s shares are seeing.

Overland Storage Inc. (NASDAQ:OVRL): Current price $0.90

Overland Storage and Tandberg Data Holdings S.à r.l. said Monday that Overland will acquire the privately held Tandberg, which provides data storage and data protection solutions that brought in revenue for the 12 months ended June 30 of about $60 million on a US GAAP basis. The 100 percent stock acquisition should be completed by the end of December, subject to the usual closing conditions, shareholder, and regulatory approvals.

SunPower Corp. (NASDAQ: SPWR): Current price $34.34

Solar tech and energy service provider SunPower on Monday announced that it purchased Greenbotics Inc., which offers panel cleaning products and services for large-scale solar power plants. With this transaction, SunPower expands its energy services portfolio for worldwide customers with the SunPower Oasis Power Plant product, particularly in markets with difficult dirt and dust environments. SunPower expects to employ the robotic tech and the Greenbotics team integrated with other product development and large-scale solar field installation projects.
