4 Morning Habits That Will Help You Stay Productive All Day
Work can take a lot out of you. In order to remain productive and power through the week, it’s important to develop an effective morning routine. The way you start your day can make the difference between finishing a project on time or sitting at your desk all day, staring at your computer screen until a spark of motivation magically hits you. Here are a few morning habits that will get you in the mood to put your best foot forward all week.
1. Get enough sleep
Even though it might work for short periods of time, skimping on sleep in order to get ahead at work doesn’t end well in the long run. Sleep deprivation will only result in irritability and mistakes that could end up costing you your job. Do your mind and your body a big favor and get at least seven to nine hours of sleep a night.
2. Wake up early
Hitting the snooze button several times and diving deeper under the covers feels great, but it could cost you. When you wake up at the last possible minute and rush around your house to quickly get dressed and out the door, you’ll arrive at work a flustered mess. It takes a while to finally calm down and get your bearings, but once you do, it’s still hard to concentrate and zero in on the tasks at hand. Make your life a little bit easier by waking up early and getting your day started in a calm, orderly manner. This way, once you get to the office, you’ll be in the frame of mind to jump right into your work and attack the day.
3. Eat breakfast
Your first meal of the day is your most important one. Studies have found that regularly eating breakfast increases concentration and memory. Don’t run out of your house with just a cup of coffee in your stomach — or worse, an empty stomach. When you do this, you’ll be cranky most of the day and constantly raid the office vending machine until you finally get to eat lunch (if you get to eat lunch). All this will get you is a sugary energy rush and then a slow crash and burn until it’s time to go home for the day. Brain fog is sure to set in. You can avoid all this by fueling up at the start of the day.
Get your energy and creative juices flowing with some morning exercise. An early-morning jog or relaxing yoga session can make a world of difference in your day. You’ll be more relaxed and able to think clearly. Studies show that exercise helps sharpen focus and contributes to better decision-making.
