International Business Machines Corporation (NYSE:IBM): Current price $205.67

Chief Financial Officer Mark Loughridge has forecast that IBM earnings in the current quarter will rise by 8 percent year-over-year, in-line with estimates. The estimate implies that profit will increase to roughly $3.79 per share in the period, excluding some items, up from $3.51 in 2012, equaling the consensus, says data compiled by Bloomberg. Loughridge reiterated his belief that IBM’s growth in the second half of the year would be stronger, seeing “double-digit performance” in the fourth quarter. His remarks came at the Barclays Global Technology, Media and Telecommunications Conference in New York.

Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL): Current price $445.15

In a pre-trial move considered extraordinary, United States District Judge Denise Cote expressed a tentative view that the Justice Department should be able to present evidence that Apple participated in a conspiracy with publishers to raise e-book prices. Cote is set to oversee a trial on June 3rd, and offered her view during a pretrial hearing on Thursday. She did emphasize that since her view was not final and that she had read only a portion of the evidence thus far, her remarks might well add to pressure on Apple to resolve the lawsuit, in which the Justice Department claims that it and five publishers conspired to set e-book prices. Cote commented,  ”I believe that the government will be able to show at trial direct evidence that Apple knowingly participated in and facilitated a conspiracy to raise prices of e-books, and that the circumstantial evidence in this case, including the terms of the agreements, will confirm that.”
