AstraZeneca Group (NYSE:AZN): Current price $51.27

AstraZeneca announced on Tuesday that it will acquire Omthera Pharmaceuticals for up to $443 million, so as to reinforce its cardiovascular drug business, which is a priority area for the United Kingdom’s number two drugmaker. In the transaction, AstraZeneca will buy Omthera for $12.70 per share, or roughly $323 million, marking a bonus of 88 percent to Omthera’s close on Friday. The purchase of the American specialist in fish oil-derived medicine emphasizes a push by the new Chief Executive Pascal Soriot to restore AstraZeneca’s fortunes via a series of bolt-on deals. This represents his second purchase in the cardiovascular field, after the acquisition in May of AlphaCore Pharma, which a small early-stage American biotech company.

Fidelity National Financial (NYSE: FNF): Current price $26.36

On Tuesday, it was announced that Fidelity National will purchase all of the outstanding common stock of Lender Processing Services, which provides integrated tech, services, data and analytics to the mortgage and real estate industries, for $33.25 per common share, making for an aggregate equity value of around $2.9 billion. Through the terms, FNF will pay 50 percent of the consideration for the LPS shares of common stock in cash and 50 percent in shares of FNF common stock.

Adobe Systems Incorporated (NASDAQ:ADBE): Current price $42.91

It has been announced that the Ideacodes team is joining Adobe. Ideacodes is a top creative consultancy that specializes in the design and user experience of smart applications, digital products, and networked communities. The co-founders of Ideacodes, Emily Chang and Max Kiesler, commented that “for the last nine years we’ve worked to re-envision the design of digital products and create the ultimate user experience for their customers. We’re thrilled to join Adobe at a time when Creative Cloud is beginning to take form, the potential to harness the power of connected networks is being realized, and the influence of good design on experience is being appreciated and expected from people worldwide.” Chang and Kiesler are joining Adobe as Creative Directors of Creative Cloud, bringing along with them knowledge and experience in design and creative strategy.

Valeant Pharmaceuticals International (NYSE:VRX): Current price $91.22

Valeant is offering $8.7 billion for Bausch & Lomb Holdings, which is the eye-care firm owned by Warburg Pincus. The deal sets Canada’s biggest drugmaker up to compete worldwide in the growing, specialized ophthalmology market. The acquisition’s value includes $4.2 billion with which Valeant will pay off Bausch & Lomb debt, according to a joint company statement. Bausch & Lomb was purchased by Warburg in a 2007 leveraged buyout and filed in March for an initial public offering following an earlier attempt to sell itself for a minimum of $10 billion stalled, according to inside sources.

Nuance Communications (NASDAQ:NUAN): Current price $19.02

On Thursday, Nuance announced that it will acquire the Tweddle Connect business, which is  an application and content service delivery platform for in-car infotainment systems, among which include Toyota Entune and Lexus Enform App Suite. Tweddle Connect puts popular third-party applications and content, such as Bing, iHeart Radio, OpenTable, and Pandora together and provides it safely and securely into the driving experience. The combo of Dragon Drive, which is Nuance’s world-class automotive-grade voice platform, and Tweddle Connect gives automakers a single, powerful set of services so as to create branded personal assistant experiences for a safer, smarter connected car.

Salix Pharmaceuticals (NASDAQ:SLXP): Current price $60.75

Salix said that as of Thursday, it had purchased from Olon (formerly Solmag) a pending patent application covering amorphous rifaximin, and also an issued patent that Olon recently bought from Apotex Pharmachem claiming amorphous rifaximin, along with related intellectual property rights. Beyond that, Olon has granted Salix the exclusive worldwide right under Olons intellectual property rights to exploit amorphous rifaximin.
