Former Spice Girl and current America’s Got Talent judge Melania Brown (known as “Mel B”) is in a bit of a financial bind — and it isn’t the first time her finances are the source of her troubles.

Brown and ex-husband Stephen Belafonte reportedly owe somewhere between $350,000 and $650,000 to the IRS … for 2017 alone. The public first caught wind of Brown’s money issues during her highly publicized 2017 divorce battle.

Her ugly divorce disclosed her financial struggles

Brown faced Belafonte in court last year to address what she called “years of physical and mental abuse” at his hands. While a Los Angeles Superior Court was told that the pair both had outstanding tax debts from their “improvident” lifestyle choices, Belafonte’s lawyer pointed fingers at Brown’s choices specifically.

“Their lifestyle was extravagant and affluent,” Grace Jamra said, “She wiped out all her Spice Girls money, approximately 50 million if not more.” The couple reportedly struggled to pay their taxes and had no combined income left at the end of the year.

She has a payment plan through her ‘AGT’ paychecks

The Blast obtained court documents that reveal Brown’s situation and how America’s Got Talent is assisting. Her paychecks are now garnished, which means that the money she needs to pay her bills is automatically deducted before she gets her check from the payroll.

Her costly divorce and custody battle didn’t help matters either. The singer has three children total (Phoenix, 19 and Angel, 11) as well as a six-year-old named Madison with Belafonte.

Court documents revealed Brown’s statement about her finances: “I do not have the financial capabilities at this point to pay for these community property debts.”

Brown reportedly asked friends for money to help her buy a house following the expensive divorce proceedings. The court ordered that Brown and Belafonte split the proceeds from the sale of their Los Angeles mansion, yet according to the Mirror Brown has already put down a six-figure deposit on a nearly $2 million mansion in Los Angeles.

A source told the site that Brown has “turned to pals” for financial help.

She’s unsure if she’ll be asked back to ‘AGT’

Brown has been a judge on AGT since the 2013 season. She’s reportedly concerned she won’t be asked back after the current season ends in September, which would only hurt her financial situation.

“I am currently a judge on the NBC television show, America’s Got Talent. I am currently in contract until the end of October 2018. I do not know if I will be asked back as a Judge on America’s Got Talent or if they will renew my contract … My current state of financial affairs is of utmost concern due to the fact that Stephen and I have immense tax debts and have been unable to repay those debts.”

Regardless of her financial troubles, Brown seems happy enough — she frequently Instagrams her hairdresser-turned-boyfriend, Gary Madatyan, with loving captions.
