Alcoa Launches Expanded Factory in Northern NY and 2 Other Dow Movers to Watch

The aluminum major has broken ground on an expanded, more modern aluminum plant in northern New York, at Messena, across the St. Lawrence River from Ontario. Gov. Andrew Cuomo said on Monday that Alcoa will spend $42 million in preparation for modernization and added capacity at the facility, and that the company will provide another $10 million to a development fund that serves the counties of St. Lawrence, Franklin, Essex, Jefferson, Lewis, Hamilton, and Herkimer, and on the Akwesasne Mohawk Reservation.

On Tuesday, the Justice Department reported that it had reached a proposed resolution with the investor Barry Diller, connected with allegations that he violated antitrust notification requirements when he bought voting securities of the Coca-Cola Co. Diller serves as chairman of media conglomerate AC/InterActiveCorp, and will pay a $480,000 civil penalty for the alleged violation, according to a Justice Department statement that announced the settlement’s filing in federal court.
General Electric Company (NYSE:GE): Current price $23.08
GE Capital Retail Bank said Tuesday that it has partnered with Phillips66 to supply private label credit card programs for consumer and commercial customers across the United States. GE Capital Retail Finance will oversee the Phillips 66 relationship and also service the account. The new Phillips 66 credit card program and promotions launch on August 1, and include a private label credit card for consumers and a branded business revolving charge card for commercial customers.
