All Aboard! Rail Traffic Continues to Show Strengthening Economy

We can theorize about whether the economy is improving, or we can look at some of the most powerful indicators. Since the economy must be functioning well for companies to transport goods for sale and production, railroad traffic is a great way to take the pulse of economic strength.

This month I wrote a Special Report for our Wall St. Cheat Sheet Premium newsletter. I analyzed shipping activity in the air, on the land, and in the sea. Today, the Association of American Railroads updated their rail traffic info. Let’s take a look:

As we can see, traffic improved 7.5% in March — the first year-over-year increase since July 2008.

In the chart above we can see 2010 has gotten off to a great start. Although we are still off from 2006-07, improvements are improvements.
