Alcatel-Lucent SA (NYSE:ALU): Current price $3.40

The telecommunications equipment manufacturer announced Tuesday that it will slash 10,000 jobs globally during the next two years, marking the most recent cost-reducing push from the loss-making firm in hopes of making it more competitive. The target is to lower fixed costs by cutting $1.36 billion, or around 15 percent, by the end of 2015. Through the plan, Alcatel will reallocate research investment to next-generation tech, and cut investment in older technology.

ReneSola Ltd. (NYSE:SOL): Current price $5.39

ReneSola shares are up more than 8 percent Tuesday in heavy trading, after Zacks Investment Research upgraded the stock to a Strong Buy on Saturday. The firm observed in part that, “In its short operating history, ReneSola has constantly fine-tuned, diversified and enlarged its product mix. The company has proved to be resilient and well adept at adjusting to changing market dynamics. With most of its solar peers in trouble due to an oversupply of solar panels, ReneSola seems to be in a better position with multiple contracts and agreements.”
