American Express Partners With VeriFone Systems and 2 Other Dow Movers to Watch

On Monday, American Express and VeriFone Systems reported a new partnership that allows eligible card members to use membership rewards points from American Express for their fare in New York City taxi cabs, in real-time, on the Taxi TV screen at the end of the ride. The program will debut on VeriFone’s in-taxi devices that process in excess of 200,000 payments per day in over 7,000 cabs spanning the city. Besides that, the announcement means that these VeriFone taxi cabs can accept Membership Rewards points while they already accept credit card payments.


Chevron Corp. (NYSE:CVX): Current price $119.58

Thousands of Romanian citizens protested on Saturday against Chevron’s plans to explore for shale gas in an impoverished eastern region. Plans by Prime Minister Victor Ponta’s government to approve the access of natural resources in the European Union’s second poorest country have set off nationwide protests since the beginning of September, uniting environmentalists, local communities, civic rights groups, and the clergy.


The Goldman Sachs Group Inc. (NYSE:GS): Current price $160.49

Goldman’s asset management division is acquiring some money market funds managed by RBS Asset Management for an undisclosed amount. On Monday, Goldman Sachs Asset Management said that the transaction complements its strong fixed income and liquidity management businesses in Europe and also worldwide. RBS said that it is divesting the funds as part of its strategic plan to center more on its core customer franchises.
