Anadarko Petroleum’s loss in the latest quarter followed profits in the previous three quarters. The company reported a profit of $544 million in the second quarter, a profit of $216 million in the first and a profit of $111 million in the fourth quarter of the last fiscal year.
Revenue has gone up for three straight quarters. It rose 43.4% in the second quarter from the year earlier and 3.9% in the first quarter.
Stock Price Performance: During December 30, 2011 to January 31, 2012, the stock price had risen $4.39 (5.8%) from $76.33 to $80.72. The stock price saw one of its best stretches over the last year between December 28, 2011 and January 5, 2012 when shares rose for six-straight days, rising 6.9% (+$5.19) over that span. It saw one of its worst periods between August 1, 2011 and August 8, 2011 when shares fell for six-straight days, falling 22.6% (-$18.69) over that span.
