Host Hotels & Resorts Inc. (NYSE:HST): Cowen said Host Hotels delivered strong Q1 results yet the shares traded lower on conservative guidance. The firm said group demand is accelerating and management indicated the remainder of 2012 is shaping up to be stronger than Q1. Shares are Outperform rated.
Salesforce.com (NYSE:CRM): Piper Jaffray says it learned that IBM (NYSE:IBM) selected SugarCRM to replace Oracle’s (NASDAQ:ORCL) Siebel customer relationship management system, after Salesforce.com (NYSE:CRM) won Hewlett-Packard’s (NYSE:HPQ) business after it moved away from Siebel. Piper doubts SugarCRM’s win is a setback for Salesforce.com (NYSE:CRM) since IBM was unwilling to use a pure cloud vendor.
Varian Medical Systems Inc. (NYSE:VAR): After a mix shift towards emerging markets lowered Varian’s (NYSE:VAR) margins and caused the company to reduce its EPS guidance, Cantor believes that the company reported solid order numbers. The firm thinks that the company’s partnership with Siemens (NYSE:SI) should enable it to increase its market share over the longer term.
Carpenter Technology Corp. (NYSE:CRS): After Carpenter Technology reported in-line Q3 EPS and higher than expected Q3 revenue, Sterne Agee raised its 2012 estimates. The firm notes that the company is tracking well ahead of its long-term EBITDA guidance, and the firm maintains a Buy rating on the stock.
