Anheuser-Busch Makes Another Push to Ward Off the Craft Beer Movement

Anheuser-Busch Inbev (NYSE:BUD) will launch its Bud Light Platinum next year and will look to attract “upscale light beer drinkers.”

The company’s rivals didn’t have much luck with their enhanced light beer offerings. Heineken Light and Stella Light were not well received by consumers.

According to AdAge the new beer comes with 6 percent alcohol by volume and 137 calories. This compares to Bud Light’s 110 calories (4.2 percent ABV) and Budweiser’s 145 calories (5 percent ABV).

Critics have raised their eyebrows on whether this could be considered “light” beer or not.

The beer will replace the 2009 Bud Light Golden Wheat. It is scheduled to hit refrigerated cases in January and will receive some good ad time during the Super Bowl.

Will the Super Bowl ads draw enough interest for the beer or will it have as much luck as its competitors?
