AT&T Inc. plans to introduce their Digital Life home monitoring service in eight United States markets, this March, as part of their efforts to expand wireless services beyond phones. The No. 2 U.S. mobile service provider will offer subscriptions with protection from burglars to water leaks and services that include remote energy conservation for what they hope will become a $1 billion business.

Sprint Nextel Corp. (NYSE:S): Current price $5.590

Sprint Nextel Corp. has joined with Microsoft (NASDAQ:MSFT) to announce the upcoming availability of Windows Phone 8 smartphones on the Sprint nationwide network. Sprint will bring two initial handsets to customers by summer, one each from Samsung and HTC. Sprint is the only national carrier with Truly Unlimited 4G LTE data, text and calling to any mobile with no metering, no throttling, and no overages.

Verizon Communications Inc. (NYSE:VZ):  Current price $43.42

Remember that FiOS, home Media Server Verizon was talking about a year ago? Well, the company is finally starting to make things official as they made an announcement and gave product details revealed today at CES. The launch date and pricing information still are unclear. Verizon and Motorola have jointly developed the new Media Server platform, which doesn’t have a catchy name like “Apple TV” or “Google TV,” but is called the Motorola Medios+ VMS1100 Media Server and the Motorola Mediaos+ IPC1100 IP-based set-top.

Vodafone Group Plc. (NASDAQ:VOD): Current price $26.12

After Verizon Communications Inc. (NYSE:VZ)’s Chief Executive Officer was reported to say that his company could buy the United Kingdom’s carrier’s stake in their United States joint venture, Verizon Wireless, Vodafone Group Plc. advanced. Vodafone rose 2.8%  to 164.10 pounds at 9:21 a.m. in London, valuing the Newbury, England-based carrier at 80.5 billion pounds ($129.5 billion). The stock declined 14% last year.

Alcatel-Lucent, S.A. (NYSE:ALU): Current price $1.59

Alcatel Lucent, S.A, the grandfather in telecommunications gear, has visions of getting into the cloud infrastructure game, with a new venture called Nuage Networks (nuage means cloud in French). The division was created a year ago and is working on a new product aimed at creating flexible and programmable networks for cloud providers.
