Bing Increases Search Share, but Microsoft Online Services Loss Widens

Microsoft (NASDAQ:MSFT) reported its financial fourth quarter results in July 2011. These revealed that its Online Services Division ran up a loss of $2557 million during the year, compared to a loss of $2337 million in 2010 – this in spite of a 15% growth in search (read: Bing) revenues. According to Microsoft, Bing had a U.S. market share of 14.4% by the last quarter.

Now, ComScore (NASDAQ:SCOR) just released its search statistics, and the pecking order reads Google (NASDAQ:GOOG) at number one having a share of 65.4%, Yahoo (NASDAQ:YHOO) next with 15.1%, and MSFT third with 15.0%.

It may be recalled that as of August 2010, Yahoo’s searches were powered by Bing following a partnership between the two. But MSFT seems to have been the beneficiary, with its share in the market going up at the expense of a declining share for Yahoo.
