Boeing Wants Crash Activation Beacons Inspected and 2 Other Dow Movers to Watch

The Boeing Co. (NYSE:BA): Current price $104.98

Following problems being found with the transmitters on 787 jets, Boeing had inspections of emergency locator beacons made by Honeywell International expanded to five additional aircraft. Now the company wants operators of 717, Next-Generation 737, 747-400, 767 and 777 airplanes to examine the beacons that activate in a crash to aid rescuers in locating a plane.


International Business Machines Corp. (NYSE:IBM): Current price $196.44

The number-one tech services company will receive $27.86 million in state-aid from the government of Romania for investment that will bring 900 jobs, the daily Ziarul Financiar reported Monday. The finance ministry said that “IBM Romania will receive 21 million euros to develop an information technology consultancy project in Bucharest and Brasov.” Under local law, state aid is given for big investments that create new jobs.


Caterpillar Inc. (NYSE:CAT): Current price $82.91

On Monday, Caterpillar said that it will repurchase $1 billion of its common stock from Société Générale, through an accelerated stock buyback transaction. In April, the firm announced a similar $1 billion transaction, which was concluded in June. The final number of shares to be repurchased and the total cost to Caterpillar will be calculated on Caterpillar’s volume-weighted average stock price during the term of the transaction, which should be completed in September.
