Chevron Bows to Opposition to Drilling in Romania and 2 Other Dow Movers to Watch

Chevron has suspended its exploration for shale gas at a site in eastern Romania in reaction to opposition from local residents. Earlier in 2013, the energy major won approval to drill exploratory wells in the eastern county of Vaslui and also has rights to search in three blocks close to the Black Sea. However, in recent months thousands of people have rallied throughout Romania to oppose government backing for shale gas exploration and its plans to establish Europe’s biggest open cast gold mine in a small Carpathian town.
American Express Co. (NYSE:AXP): Current price $79.52
American Express shares are up 3.75 percent Thursday, setting a new 52-week high of $79.66, the biggest intraday gain since December 2011, after the lender posted a third-quarter profit that surpassed analysts’ estimates. Third-quarter profit jumped by 9.3 percent to $1.37 billion, or $1.25 per share, according to a Wednesday statement.
Johnson & Johnson (NYSE:JNJ): Current price $91.68
On Thursday, J&J’s board declared a cash dividend for the fourth quarter at 66 cents per share on the company’s common stock. This dividend is payable on December 10 to shareholders of record at the close on November 26. The ex-dividend date is November 22.
