Coal Deals in the News

UBS (NYSE:UBS) has been hired to find a buyer for the Australian Wilkie Creek coal mine. Currently owned by Peabody Energy (NYSE:BTU), the mine ownership should draw the attention of several Asian nations. There are several countries that could use the annual production of over 2 million metric tons of thermal coal for their power plants.

In other news, Kinder Morgan Partners (NYSE:KMP) will expand their coal exporting operations. The company expects to invest approximately $140 million after reaching a long term agreement with Arch Coal (NYSE:ACI). KMP says port space for east coast coal shipments are also under discussion.
