Coca-Cola Announces Huge New Spending in China and 2 Other Dow Movers to Watch

Coca-Cola Co. (NYSE:KO): Current price $39.97

In a an interview in Shanghai on Wednesday, President David Brooks of Coca-Cola’s greater China and Korea business division announced that his company plans to invest more than $4 billion in China from 2015 to 2017 by constructing factories and adding new products there to meet demand and combat increasing competition. Brooks also revealed that Coke is open to acquisitions in China and could explore deals with complementary businesses, like the makers of juices or plant-protein drinks such as almond milk. The soda major is building up its China investment as it and its bottlers attempt to double global revenues to $200 billion leading up to 2020.


Nike Inc. (NYSE:NKE): Current price $76.14

Adidas has plans for the 2014 soccer World Cup that include its rival Nike. The former is projecting a $2.7 billion pop to its sales from the event that would help it recover from a problematic 2013 and push back Nike in the intensely contested European markets using innovative running gear. Adidas warned in September that sales and profits would not increase as much as was expected. Meanwhile, Nike posted an 8 percent gain in sales in western Europe in its fiscal first quarter to the end of August, while Adidas reported a drop of 6 percent at constant currencies in its third quarter.


International Business Machines Corp. (NYSE:IBM): Current price $180.84

IBM said that its SmartCloud for Government infrastructure as-a-service cloud platform has been awarded provisional authorization to operate from the Federal Risk and Authorization Management Program Joint Authorization Board. Upon this approval, IBM’s platform has achieved all the current critical security authorizations required by the government prior to the June 2014 deadline. IBM’s SmartCloud for Government, FISMA, and FedRAMP-compliant cloud environment forms part of IBM’s established and dedicated Federal Data Centers in Colorado and North Carolina.
