Consumer Biz Recap: Dunkin Comments on the MARKET SIZE, Walgreen CHATTER

Maybe this time… Chatter that Walgreen (NYSE:WAG) might resolve its long standing spat with Express Scripts (NASDAQ:ESRX) has shares of the former climbing on Monday. The fact that the parties dropped the suits against each other has made the prospect of a resolution brighter in the last few days.

Dunkin’ Brands (NASDAQ:DNKN) executives are making a case that the coffee market has sufficient room for itself, plus McDonald’s (NYSE:MCD) and Starbucks (NASDAQ:SBUX), at the Jefferies Global Consumer Conference. As Dunkin’ signed new supply contracts later in 2012, the lower world price for coffee should raise its margins quite noticably.

Sears Holding (NASDAQ:SHLD) will offer the 7-inch Idolian Mobile Android-powered tablet for under $100, and will be one of a few retailers to do so. The company is implementing a strategy of using more sophisticated algorithms with its software, to help it maintain pricing power and to capture bargain shoppers as well. This move is designed to assist both goals.
