Consumer Biz Replay: Mobile Phone Shares RULED By Googel’s Android

Gartner, Inc. has released year-over-year figures regarding mobile phone market shares and sales from 2011 to 2012. Samsung’s (SSNLF.PK) market share jumped from 16.3 percent last year to 21.6 percent, while Nokia Corporation’s (NYSE:NOK) share dropped to 19.9 percent from 22.8 percent, and Apple’s (NASDAQ:AAPL) increased from 4.6 percent to the current 6.9 percent. Overall, Android (NASDAQ:GOOG) shares moved from 43 percent to 64, iOS came in at 18.8 percent compared to 18.2 percent, Symbian collapsed from 22.1 percent to 5.9%, and Microsoft (NASDAQ:MSFT) posted 2.7 percent versus 1.6 percent in 2011. Sales of smartphones as a whole soared 43 percent to 154 million units year-over-year.
