Consumer Business Review: CNN’s New EDGE Series, Honda TAKES ON Toyota

Time Warner’s (NYSE:TWX) CNN intends to recoup its embattled ratings by the launch of a new weekend series that will feature an insider’s look at ‘edge’ groups such as marijuana growers, gun enthusiasts, migrant farm workers, and end-of-life caregivers. In the past quarter, viewer numbers for the network plunged to a 21-year low in the key demographics.

Honda Motor Co., Ltd. (NYSE:HMC) will challenge the popular Toyota Motor Corporation’s (NYSE:TM) Camry, utilizing new models and marketing campaigns which are intended to topple that vehicle’s dominance. Honda’s redesigned Accord midsized sedan allows better fuel-efficiency plus new technology toys in a segment in which more competition could foster lower pricing.

Saks Incorporated (NYSE:SKS) has lost 1.5 million shares out of Carlos Slim’s position, according to a Securities and Exchange Commission filing (Form 4), but the Mexican investor is said to still hold slightly more than 25 million shares.

Daimler Ag (DDAIF.PK) mulls the use of its partnership with Renault-Nissan to make a compact Mercedes-Benz model, says a German media report. Such an initiative would follow an industry pattern in which pressed automakers employ their ongoing alliances to explore new segments.
