Results: Net income for Danaher Corporation rose to $570.7 million (80 cents per share) vs. $473.9 million (69 cents per share) in the same quarter a year earlier. This marks a rise of 20.4% from the year earlier quarter.

Actual vs. Wall St. Expectations: DHR reported adjusted net income of 81 cents per share. By that measure, the company beat the mean estimate of 78 cents per share. Analysts were expecting revenue of $4.75 billion.

We believe our continued investments in growth and the structural cost actions undertaken in the fourth quarter of 2011 position us well for another year of superior financial performance.”

Net income has increased 39.2% year over year on average across the last five quarters. The biggest gain came in the fourth quarter of the last fiscal year, when income climbed 77.5% from the year earlier quarter.

Looking Forward: Analysts appear increasingly negative about the company’s results for the next quarter. The average estimate for the first quarter of the next fiscal year has moved down from 72 cents a share to 71 cents over the last sixty days. At $2.82 per share, the average estimate for the fiscal year has fallen from $2.83 ninety days ago.
